Chapter 144: Exploration

The potential of these twenty-something Clawitzer wasn't all green; several of them were only yellow. However, Yuga kept them all due to their decent levels.

The higher a Pokémon's level, the greater the likelihood of it producing offspring with high potential. Plus, with the presence of Guardian Orbs in the Ecopark, using them as breeding stock was still feasible.

However, despite this large group of Clawitzer and Claunchers, Yuga didn't find a single Pokémon with blue potential. He was a bit disappointed, but this was normal. Gligar and Flygon were exceptions.

"Thanks to you, otherwise we might not have been able to make it out today," Robert said with emotion, looking at Yuga.

Yuga modestly replied, "Not at all, I just had to think on my feet." In reality, Yuga thought back to when he tamed Houndour and used a similar approach.

However, the situation back then was a bit different compared to now. Houndour and Houndoom were inherently proud Pokémon, so Yuga hadn't needed to put in as much effort as he did now.

"Enough talk, now we can finally explore inside the sunken ship." After saying this, Yuga led Linoone and Chimecho back onto the path that led to the sunken ship.

When Yuga and his group reached the bottom of the ship, they looked up at the massive sailboat and Yuga sighed in frustration, "It's too tall, how are we supposed to get up?"

Robert pointed to the two Chimecho floating in mid-air and said with a smile, "Don't we still have them?"

"Right, look at me, after fighting for so long my mind's gone dull." Yuga had become too accustomed to thinking in his past world's way, sometimes subconsciously forgetting the magical creatures called Pokémon around him.

With Chimecho' psychic help, Yuga and Robert successfully boarded the sunken ship.

As they stepped onto the deck, Yuga saw that most of the wood had rotted, not as sturdy as usual wooden material; instead, it was somewhat soft.

"Let's go inside the cabin and take a look!" Robert suggested.

Yuga nodded.

At this point, Yuga's Absol had been recalled when they boarded the ship, so only Chimecho, Linoone, and Vivillon were outside.

Robert's Cinccino and Baltoy had also been recalled, leaving only Chimecho outside.

Walking past the ship's main deck, Yuga and Robert smoothly entered the cabin. However, it was dim inside, and without flashlights, they couldn't see the situation clearly.

"Feels a bit eerie!" Yuga commented in disgust. Facing this dark, damp space that emitted a moldy smell, people couldn't help but feel a bit repulsed.

"A bit!" Robert agreed, feeling the same way.

This ship was quite large, and it was evident that the cabin had more than one level. It was probably due to the front half of the ship having problems first that the entire ship was tilted.

"With such a large area, we better split up to search, or we won't know when we'll be done," Robert suggested.

"Ugh, seriously?" Yuga was a bit unwilling. This place looked eerie and unfriendly.

"What's the matter? Are you scared?" Robert's tone was playful.

"Cut it out, let's split up. Chimecho, Linoone, Vivillon, let's go!" Yuga said and led his Pokémon downward.

The front half of the ship was tilted downward, while the back half was raised, so Yuga went to explore the front half of the sunken ship.

"After searching, we'll meet back here!" Robert shouted toward where Yuga had already disappeared into the darkness.

"Got it!" Yuga's voice came from a distance.

Squeak, squeak. Yuga held a flashlight, and every now and then, the sound of stepping on broken wood could be heard beneath his feet. Coupled with the pitch-black and quiet environment, it truly resembled a scene from a horror movie.

Just then, eerie laughter echoed from somewhere, sending shivers down Yuga's spine.

Yuga knew for sure that this was the work of Ghost-type Pokémon, but he couldn't help but feel his scalp tingle.

"Linoone, use Odor Sleuth!" Yuga didn't want to hear those strange sounds anymore, so he hoped that Linoone could find the Ghost-type Pokémon responsible for it.

Linoone twitched its nose, then suddenly used Shadow Ball toward the area above Yuga's head. A Duskull then floated down from above in a somewhat wobbly manner.

However, upon seeing Yuga's two eyes staring straight at it, Duskull screamed in fear and fled.

This Duskull was of orange potential, and Yuga didn't feel like chasing it, so he continued walking downward.

As Yuga continued downwards, the flashlight's beam often startled some of the Pokémon living here—Zubats, Chinchou, and Corphish, to name a few.

However, these Pokémon were quite timid; when startled, they not only didn't attack Yuga, but also scurried away.

Yuga continued walking downwards. Suddenly, he saw a light shining ahead, and he quickened his pace to reach it.

Upon reaching the spot, Yuga realized he had arrived at the very front of the sunken ship. His current position seemed to be the bow of the ship's original cabin.

Unfortunately, a large hole had already been ripped in front of the cabin, and the light Yuga saw was shining through that hole into the cabin.

Yuga guessed that this large hole in the bow cabin was likely the main reason the ship had sunk.

This hole had destroyed the front side of the ship, connecting the outer water area to the cabin through this hole.

Using the flashlight, Yuga glanced around the bow cabin and suddenly spotted several Claunchers, along with numerous Pokémon eggs nestled in nests made of water plants.

Yuga hadn't expected to inadvertently find the nesting grounds of the Clawitzer; those Claunchers were probably the guardians of the eggs.

The light from Yuga's flashlight immediately startled these Claunchers, and they all fired Bubble Beam at Yuga.

"Vivillon, Protect!"

The Protect ability truly lived up to its reputation as a defensive skill—all of the Bubble Beams were blocked without any issue.

"Linoone, Shadow Ball; Chimecho, Psychic; Vivillon, Electroweb."

The remaining Claunchers weren't strong; under the successive attacks of Yuga's Pokémon, they quickly lost their ability to fight.

However, the potential of these Claunchers was all below green, so Yuga didn't pay them any further attention.

Yuga was a bit puzzled; he wondered how such a vital task like guarding Pokémon eggs had been assigned to these weak Pokémon.

Just as Yuga was about to step forward to examine these eggs, he suddenly heard the sound of water behind him.

Drip, splash.

Followed by the sound of a Pokémon's cry.
