Chapter 128: Resolve
In the end, under Damien's stubborn persistence, the bird finally changed his way of calling him. Damien took the Ironclaw Eagle to the dining region of the inn while Wistoria followed him.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
She sat down on the chair opposite him and asked him, "Where did you find this chatterbox?" Your journey continues at m v|l-e'-NovelBin.net
[You are the chatterbox! Who are you calling a chatterbox? Look at me; I am so demure.]
Damien nearly choked on the sip of water that he had taken before saying to Wistoria, "I found him in an abandoned nest."
"So it's a runt?" Wistoria frowned. She looked at the bird, and it did look quite small.
[This evil witch!]
The Iron Claw Eagle ruffled his wings and glared at Wistoria angrily. Clearly, he did not like how she was calling him a runt.
"Why are you calling her an evil witch?" Damien couldn't help but ask as he ordered for orc meat as well as a plate of roasted chicken and cream pasta.
[Because she is evil. You don't know how she chased after me just now. If I was not lucky, she would have snapped my body and squashed it into pulp. Fortunately you woke up, Master.]
Dan looked at the bird that was speaking nonstop and turned to look at Damien. With a betrayed expression that was quite similar to the one that Damien saw in a movie, he said to him, "Host, you are really a scumbag. When I speak to you, you find me annoying and ask me to shut up. But you are letting this bird speak to you without a pause."
"It's not what you think," Damie said to Dan.
However, when Dan noticed Damien pushing the boneless orc meat towards the Ironclaw Eagle, he shook his head and said to Damien, "You don't have to say anything, host. It seems like all human men are like this. They like the new and forget the old one, humph."
Damien, who had taken a bite of his meal, choked once again, and Wistoria had to thump him on the back before saying to him, "What is wrong with you? Can't you eat and drink in peace?"
"I assure you that I want to. I really want to."
Throughout the entire meal, he listened to the complaints of the AI system and the baby eagle. In the end, he asked Dan to shut up and threw Claw out of the room.
Once he regained some silence, Damien took the dragon scale out of the inventory and placed it in his palms. As soon as he touched the crystal, he could feel a sort of warmth trickle into his body. At first the current was hot, it was so hot that Damien felt himself sweating but soon when the current reached his beastcore, he felt it turn cold,
However, the absorption rate of the energy was too small and slow. Damien frowned. If this goes on, when would he be able to process all the energy stored in this dragon scale?
He thought of something and then went to the bathing room, where he poured a bucket of water in the tub and climbed inside.
This time, the absorption was faster—not exceptional but faster.
It seems like I was right. A medium is really necessary for a novice like me, Damien thought.
Throughout the afternoon, he tried to absorb the energy inside the dragon scale. He only stopped when it was dinner time and his stomach was rumbling with hunger. As for the rare orb, he threw it to Dan and asked him to deduce the properties of the orb.
When he stepped out of the bathing room, he found Claw flying around in the room. To his surprise, the bird was a lot bigger than it was before; its bald and hairless body had grown some plumage, and he looked rather cute.
"What happened?" Damien asked.
[I don't know, this afternoon I felt like I was getting stronger all of a sudden. Master, do I look good?]
'So this was what Master Godric meant?' Damien's eyes widened. It looks like as long as he could imprint on a beast, he would form a bond with it; as long as he grew stronger, these beasts would get stronger as well.
Does this mean that he could borrow Claw's strength and skills?
He tried to make a swipe in the air, but nothing happened, and Damien clicked his tongue.
It isn't as easy as I thought, eh? He shook his head, realising how different reality was from imagination.
However, he did not give up. Now that he knew that there were supplements that could help him recover his beastcore faster, he was going to work harder and research the things that would help him grow.
[Master should we go and eat? I am hungry?]
He heard Claw say to him, Damien wanted to question him if it was his hunger that was resonating with him but refrained. Damien did not think that he and Claw were so closely bonded that they would start sharing the same bodily functions.
It must be because the baby eagle was still growing and only knew how to eat and sleep.
"Let's go," Damien nodded and then stepped out of the room. He was hungry as well. Upon reaching the dining room, Damien ordered a bunch of things and finished it just as quickly as Claw.
Once they finished their meal, Master Godric asked them to pack up, and they left the inn that very night. No one knew why Master Godric asked them to move in a hurry, but that was until Damien got his hands on the next morning newspaper.
On the front page, there was a headline that relayed rather detailed news of how an innkeeper suddenly went crazy and lit the entire inn on fire.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, and everyone escaped from the inn. Only the innkeeper was burnt to death.
Damien shuddered. He was glad that they left without staying the night or else!
