Chapter 855
Chapter 855: Selecting Swords
It did not take long for Yvonne to recall a promise her brother had made in the recent past.
Before she had left for the Valente fief to check on the progress of her business, he had assured her that he would prepare special gifts for her birthday which he would miss due to his inability to accompany her on that trip.
When the St. Claire family had returned to the Capital, the date of Howard’s departure to the Royal Academy was already close so the elder brother had been unable to fulfill his promise to her back then.
However, there was a reason why he had failed to present her anything for her birthday as he was always the first to rush around for her sake in the past.
Therefore, when he got the chance, he had brought her to this place and had revealed what he had planned for their trip today.
While Howard was now beginning to feel nervous, the little girl next to him was scanning her surroundings.
Yvonne had been using the wooden sword her father had prepared for her training sessions with the Captain.
.....
If she were to remember it correctly, then that sword had come from this store which was a place her family frequented.
Even the silver sword which she had received a few years ago as a bribe from her father so that she might stop giving him the silent treatment had also been prepared by this same person.
She had heard from her father that the owner of this store was an acquaintance and thus would not reveal this matter to any outsider.
Back then, she trusted her father, and seeing how no rumors about her training with swords had reached her ears, she knew that she had placed her trust in the right person.
However, she had never been to this store and neither had she come in contact with this old man ever before.
Therefore, she was surprised and enthusiastic as she observed this new place she had entered for the very first time.
Thus when she later heard Howard mentioning a new sword, she was more than willing to comply.
After all, the sword she had been using was already a few years old and she had grown a lot during this period.
She was growing taller each day and the sword which she had been using until now was meant for someone shorter than her current height.
It was alright now but it would be inconvenient for her to continue using the same sword if she were to grow any further which she had every intention of doing.
Though she had not given it much thought, to know that her brother had been observant enough and had even made necessary arrangements for her was now making her smile at his considerate actions.
On the other hand, when the old man seated behind the counter was introduced to the little girl, he finally understood what such a cute child was doing inside his store.
Little girls were often averse to the idea of swords and shields yet this one had entered willingly and was even having an intrigued look on her face as she glanced around.
This made him recall a conversation he had with one of his old clients, the Earl of the St. Claire fief.
Back when Rutherford was a youngster studying at the Royal Academy, he too had been a customer of this store and purchased all of his weapons right from here.
However, their connection had come to an end when the young boy had been forced by his father to give up on his dream of becoming a knight.
Though it seemed that fate had different plans and they had reconnected when the young boy had turned into an adult and inherited the title of the Earl.
However, he had come back this time for the sake of his son who was just like him, fascinated and keen about learning the art of swordsmanship.
Howard had only recently begun visiting this store and it was Rutherford who had been doing so in his stead for quite a while now.
Most of the training equipment that had been prepared for the Young master in the St. Claire estate had come from this store which even he did not know about.
Later on, the Earl had come back to this store, not to purchase something new for his son but to the owner’s surprise, it had been in connection to his daughter.
Many did not even know the name of the Earl’s daughter but were aware of her brilliant mind thanks to Marquess Samed’s boastful declarations about her intellect.
Therefore, the owner, Mr. Smith was also one of those who had heard about the Little Miss of the St. Claire family.
However, when he met the Earl that day, he had heard a lot more about her which gave him a deeper understanding of her personality.
From the Earl, he had heard about Miss Yvonne’s desire to learn self-defense and horse riding.
Though he was impressed at first, he was a little reluctant at the same time.
For he had been troubled that his equipment might cause her some harm as she was still too young and weak.
Regardless, the Earl ignored his advice and had even assured him that everything would be fine, asking him to put his worries to rest.
He then revealed that her tutor was Captain Desmo who was known for being an excellent advisor as well as the perfect trainer in the Red Scorpion Knights.
Since the owner was aware of the good friendship between the Earl and the Captain, a portion of his troubles had faded away instantly.
Considering the Earl’s protective nature and the Captain’s cautious behavior towards the Earl and everything related to him, there would be no reason for him to continue being reluctant any longer.
Thus he had accepted the order placed by the Earl and prepared everything he had requested.
A saddle for a horse, a long sword fit for a child’s size, and also a pair of leather gloves which she could wear while wielding that same sword.
He was also asked to keep this matter a secret from the outsiders as the Earl did not wish for anyone to criticize his child.
Understanding his perspective, the old man had agreed and never let out a single word about it before another soul.
However, what he had not known until now was the fact that the little girl who was now standing before him was long past the stage of learning self-defense.
She had awakened her powers, formed a bond with an etcher, could manifest her aura, and had also sparred with some of the brilliant youngsters of this generation.
These facts about her were still hidden from the owner of the store as Rutherford had not mentioned anything about her etcher or her awakening before him.
This was a secret that should be kept among a limited number of people in order to avoid any unnecessary incidents and thus Mr. Smith was also excluded from the list without any hesitation.
Therefore, he was unaware of the aura present within her body which she had done an excellent job at concealing each time she stepped outside their family’s estate.
While Mr. Smith might have been kept in the dark about certain aspects, he was in the know about a few others.
Therefore, when he learned that his clients for today were the children of the Earl, he was quick to understand the reason for their visit.
He had been contacted by the young master previously so he did not waste any further time once he recognized who had come to his store today.
As the siblings watched, the old man moved with a speed unlike his age and brought out six different swords, placing them on the counter before the children.
Yvonne’s amethyst eyes sparkled as the swords before her were both exquisite-looking and functional at the same time.
“Which one does the Miss like the best?” The old man spoke up while she was still scanning the six options he had brought out for her.
When the little girl heard this, she grasped what he wanted her to do and began checking each one out before she could make any decision.
Standing next to her and watching her swing the swords one after another, testing how they felt in her hand, Howard’s nervousness from earlier had now turned into panic.
‘What is he doing!?’ He turned and glared at the old man who wasn’t acting according to what they had planned earlier.
