Chapter 843
Chapter 843: Melancholic Thoughts
Around the time that Captain Desmo was having an uncomfortable conversation with his superior, breakfast had come to an end at the St. Claire household.
After they had finished eating, they had moved to the Parlor and this was where Grandpa Valente had once again brought up the topic of his granddaughter’s training with the Captain.
Though he praised her for being able to overcome so many obstacles to reach such great heights at such a young age, he also condemned the parents for letting her training get so strenuous.
Yvonne was still a child but was able to keep up with her elder brother who was around three years older than her.
This made it clear that she had put in great efforts to get to where she was now.
He was proud of her accomplishments but at the same time, his heart ached for how much she must have struggled so that she might reach these heights.
Raylene shook her head after she was chided by her father as she had already asked her child to not burden herself.
.....
She too had the same worries as the old man but Yvonne had always convinced her that she wasn’t exhausted and was perfectly fine with the way things were.
Grandpa Valente sighed at this response because he too had seen just how stubborn his little granddaughter could get.
On the other hand, he turned and shot a fierce glare at his son-in-law who remained passive without trying to dissuade his daughter from overworking.
Raylene might not be aware of the extent of the child’s training but there was no way that the Earl was also ignorant of the same.
Therefore, his anger was aimed at this man who had turned a blind eye towards it.
When Rutherford felt that burning gaze fixed on him, he did not know how to react.
In the sights of everyone, he too was just as clueless as Raylene about the training Yvonne was undergoing with the Captain.
Only Butler Limo was aware of the fact that he spied on his daughter and his old friend while they trained together.
However, this was a well-kept secret between the master and butler so no one had heard about it until now.
Therefore, he could not expose himself here and only put on an awkward expression, indicating that he too could not go against his daughter’s pleas.
Yvonne’s request to train with the Captain and Desmo’s condition that no one meddled with the way he taught the child.
These two matters had his hands tied, unable to let him interfere even when all he wanted was to take his child away from the tiresome training she was being put through.
Recalling the promises he had made, Rutherford pretended to be equally ignorant of the matters pertaining to her training.
Watching the adults discuss matters related to her without involving her in it, Yvonne rolled her eyes in silence.
However, she did not voice out her opinions as they did not display signs of disapproval towards her training per se, instead, their discussion was regarding the intensity of it.
Therefore, she did not mind it and was a silent observer of the same.
When she witnessed her father being glared at, she chuckled softly at his acting skills which seemed mediocre at best.
Though he was skilled at concealing his emotions most of the time, it appeared that he was unable to do so while facing his father-in-law.
After all, Yvonne knew the reason for his awkward expressions which he had on his face right now.
In the beginning, even she had been clueless about what her father was up to but it was Demon who had informed her that they had a secret spectator who watched them train a few times.
She could not make out where he was located but trusted her etcher who had confirmed this information after observing similar incidents happening again.
Thus she knew that her father had watched her train with the Captain a few times even if he did not make his presence known to them.
Seeing him acting oblivious now as though he too had been clueless about how she had been training with Desmo was amusing for her.
Nevertheless, she did not expose his secret and maintained a veil of ignorance to not land him in any further trouble.
When Grandpa Valente received such underwhelming responses, he snorted before shaking his head.
Turning towards the child who was seated right next to him, he patted her head before urging her to take good care of her health.
“There is no use of being immensely talented if you do not have the health to sustain yourself.” He reminded her that her health came first.
The old man had a melancholic expression as he uttered those words and most of the people seated in this room had comprehended what he could be thinking about.
Grandma Valente had been in great health but in the later years of her life had fallen ill to the point where she had lost all her vitality before losing her life in the end.
Not being able to save her was one of the biggest regrets in his life.
Therefore, he did not want anything untoward to happen to any other member of his family.
Meanwhile, Rutherford also frowned at this statement that had been made as certain thoughts popped up in his mind.
His mother had also died when he was young and his father too had succumbed due to a chronic illness during his young adult years.
The old man’s words reminded him that his family also had a history of illness which now made him frown at the possibility of his children having the same as well.
In the few seconds that the conversation had come to a halt, he had already made up his mind on what needed to be done in order to protect his wife and children in case any one of those illnesses turned out to be hereditary.
Unaware of the rapidly churning brain of her husband, Raylene comforted her father by assuring him that she would take good care of the children.
Yvonne too promised that she would not go overboard and rest when she was too stressed out.
This eased the furrowed brows of the old man who nodded, accepting the compromises they were making for his sake.
Once this conversation had come to an end, the family decided to go their separate ways as they each had different schedules for the day.
The twins announced that they would be taking the old man to their villa and might even show him around the Capital.
Raylene had already insisted on keeping them here last night so she did not hinder their plans any further and agreed with them right away.
“Make sure you do not strain yourself too much.” She repeated the same words to the old man who chuckled before promising to behave accordingly.
The family of four then watched as the three men from the Valente family got into a carriage that would lead them to the villa that had been the twins’ home for the last six months.
As soon as the carriage was out of sight, the St. Claire family headed inside and each went their own way.
Rutherford had some important matters to deal with in his Office and he would head outside soon as well.
Raylene had plans of meeting Duchess Tanner and a few ladies at a store in the Commercial District so she had to prepare for her outing.
Yvonne also had a set schedule as she would have to wait for her class with Marquess Samed to begin before she could rest for the afternoon.
On the other hand, Howard was free to do as he pleased but had no clue about what he wished to do.
He had met Sept and Taylor just yesterday so meeting them again would not be possible.
Taylor would have his training with the Red Scorpion Knights team and Sept might also be busy.
Therefore, Howard decided that he would stay in his room, reading some books until his sister was done with her classes.
He could not disturb her schedule so he would wait until she was free before they could plan on doing something together, just the two of them.
Satisfied with the plan he had come up with, Howard escorted his sister to her room while their parents went the other way.
