The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 368 - Skipped, Skipped, Skipped A Beat

With his hand clasped onto her mouth, and the threatening glare in his eyes was alone enough to keep her mouth shut. The warmth of his breath fanned her neck as he leaned forward. Her heartbeat was in a mess, standing an inch away from him. If not she were holding the railing for support, her feet would have given up at the frequency they trembled.

''Don't panic. It's me.'' In the end, he lifted his hand. His eyes softened when he noticed she was scared.

''You have got a way to scare me always.'' She scorned fiercely.

Ignoring her bombasts, he said. ''I need your help to escape from this room.'' His voice was low, without any inflection.

''I am not your servant.'' She snapped, pushing him away.

''Why you....'' Kurt stopped cursing immediately. He completely forgot. Madam will only entertain requests. ''Kyle...'' He forced a smile. ''Please help me.''

''It's not a big deal like the restroom you entered last time.'' She said, a lazy expression on her face. ''Take right, and walk straight. If someone asks, tell them you have come here by mistake.''

''NO!'' Kurt denied.

His father must have a hard time raising this child. Kyle mused. ''Why do you keep running into girl's personal? Last time, it was the bathroom, and now it is a trial room. Funny, though, I am the only unlucky person to witness your eyesores.''

''I didnot intended to. I have run into a problem.'' Kurt added dejectedly. All the blame goes to that Lollipop. She is like a viscous oil, a part of it still sticks, even after washing. Instead of thinking about the criminal, Kurt's curiosity piqued on something else today. He wanted to know if that Lollipop sleeps with that stick in her mouth during nights as well.

''Wait here,'' Kyle unlocked the door and peeked. Almost the corridor is getting lined up now. She immediately closed the door shut before someone comes rushing. What do I do now? She has an idea but doesn't know if this misogynist agrees to it.

''Let's do one thing.'' Kyle's ears turned pink. ''We will go together. If they ask, I_I will tell them that you are my boyfriend...and you are here to see my dress..''

''Absolutely not.'' Kurt denied it again.

'"Then what am I suppose to do?'' Kyle cried, slumping on the floor. What's so big deal in going out? She has seen men straight away walking into their girlfriends or wives ' rooms without any shame. ''Then you don't have a choice. Unless the lights go off...''

''That's a good idea.'' Kurt smiled, made a call to his assistant, spoke a few words, and ended the call. ''The entire shopping complex will blackout in another ten minutes.''

He was talking as if he had won a medal, but Kyle kenned him as a coward who cannot face a woman. If she voiced her thoughts, he would come growling at her like a dog.

''Did you get any breakthrough in the case?'' Kyle asked, breaking the silence. Ten minutes of silence would do no good in the small room.

''Back to square,'' Kurt said. 'If only you helped me but dared to utter.' ''How is your relationship with him? D_id you break up?''

''No. We are good now.''

Kurt gripped the iron rail tightly. Why does my heart feel empty? Am I sad that she is dating that criminal, or is it something else?

''Aren't you asking why I am talking despite knowing he is a criminal?'' Kyle lifted her eyes to meet him.

What else? Puppy love. That criminal might have called her babe, and she would have melted like Sugar upon hearing his sweet coated words. Then the reconciliation. A babe for a grown-up girl? ''I am not bothered.'' Seconds later, Kurt changed the question. ''Why?'' He has eight more minutes. Let's hear what she has to say.

''My mother died of a disease when I was young.''

He witnessed a wave of sadness pinned on her face.

''Luckily, I didnot end up in the streets.'' Kyle continued. ''I had only one thought running in my mind after the night you showed the truth. What if they are not lucky like me. Since then, I have been gathering a little about Landon. I wanted to tell you this but didnot find the right time.''

''So you are talking to him to help me?'' Kurt questioned to confirm his doubts.

Kyle nodded her head, and in a spur of the moment, she was embraced into a hug. ''Thank you, Kyle, but don't act recklessly and put your life at risk. I will call you tonight and tell you what you exactly need to do.''

''Ummmm..okay.'' She whispered, standing still like a statue. ''Ca_n you release me..

Kurt immediately pulled back when he realized he had made a mistake on impulse. ''Actually, I_I was..''

Darkness ignited the room like an ember of coal. Kurt felt he got saved from the embarrassment.

''I will look outside first,'' Kyle changed the topic and unlocked the door. The flashlights turned on everywhere, but the people across the corridor are moving out. ''It's clear.''

Without any hazards, Kurt passed the trail rooms area on Kyle's command and parted their ways.

''Hey, Reese,'' Kyle called, appearing in front of her.

''What took you so long?'' Reese asked, flashing the mobile light across Kyle's face. ''Damn this power! Irresponsible management.''

''The dress was a little tight at my waist. So, I had a hard time wearing it.'' Kyle said. ''Where is Leena?''

''That shopaholic doesn't care dark or light when it comes to clothes. She must be somewhere, picking dresses.'' Reese said, tightly holding Cutie's hand. ''Let me call her.''

Kyle stood next to Reese, waiting for Leena. Suddenly, a voice whispered close to her ears, startling her. ''Thank you. Have a safe journey.''

And then he was gone. She followed his silhouette in the line of flashlight torches. Moments later, the brightness lit the entire building. He turned back and smiled at her.. Her heart skipped, skipped, skipped, a beat.
