Chapter 199: Audrey, Martha's Friend
Chapter - 199
"Ummm..." Karen slowly popped her eyes open.
"Yo, you're finally awake," but before she could fully open her eyes, Karen heard a voice. She turned her head towards the sound and saw it was Alex. But then, her eyes went wide open again. When Karen looked down, her robe had disappeared, and she was only covered in the damn white hospital sheet.
"What the... How... Where the hell are my clothes?" Karen pulled up the sheet, clutching it tight to her chest, and gave Alex a bewildered look.
"You don't remember?" Alex chuckled, finding Karen's reaction amusing.
"No..." Karen wanted to deny it, but suddenly everything came flooding back. The moments she spent in Alex's arms not too long ago became crystal clear in her mind.
"We..." Karen began to piece it together as she looked at Alex with questioning eyes.
"Yeah, we did..." Alex nodded, understanding what she wanted to ask even without Karen finishing her sentence.
"It wasn't a damn dream?" Karen still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that it was all real.
"We can contemplate that later... I think you should get dressed," Alex pointed out, "Someone might walk in any damn second."
"Eehh!!" Karen nodded but then hesitated, glancing at Alex without saying anything.
"Want me to turn around?" Alex asked, and Karen nodded.
"Why are you so shy? I've already seen the whole package," Alex smirked.
"Alex!!" Karen's face turned a deep shade of red, and she pushed Alex, forcing him to turn his face away. "Just don't look."
"Hehehe... The look on your face. What would everyone in the PR department think if they saw you now... Hitler, Devil, Task Master... Ain't that what everyone in the damn company calls you?" Alex laughed at Karen's reaction, but he still complied.
"Why did you do it?" Karen asked as she put on her robe.
"Don't put it all on me. You enjoyed it just as much," Alex shrugged, "You ain't thinking of doing anything immoral, right? Like reporting me or some shit?"
"You know I am not talking about this... This mess," Karen furrowed her brows and took a deep breath before continuing, "I'm talking about that man, my husband. I know you're behind whatever the hell happened to him."
"I told you, it had got nothing to do with me," Alex denied with a straight face, "No matter how many times you ask, my answer isn't gonna change."
"I know... You don't have to say nothing... I just wanna thank you," Karen said, slowly leaning against Alex's back, hugging him from behind, "Thank you for everything."
"Instead of thanking me, you should get your shit together. Leave that man, get the hell out of that fucked up whatever you got going on with him," Alex didn't turn around but tried to make Karen understand, "You have done nothing wrong to deserve this."
"Shssh... Don't talk about him. Let me forget about everything for a while," Karen closed her eyes, not wanting to be bothered.

"Karen," Alex whispered softly.
"Hmm..."
"I have to leave now," Alex told Karen.
"Hmm..." Karen nodded, but instead of letting go of Alex, she snuggled into him even more.
"I hit up Jessica. She's on her way here,"
Finally, after hearing this, Karen opened her eyes, took a deep breath, and let go of Alex.
"Why'd you call her? I'm perfectly fine," Karen tried to act like she was all good.
"I couldn't just leave you all alone," Alex shook his head helplessly.
'But I wanted to be alone,' Karen mumbled.
And just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Guess it's time for me to leave,"

As he approached his house, Alex noticed a shiny, brand new SUV parked right in their driveway.
Curious, Alex parked his motorcycle right next to the black metallic beast of a car. The car belonged to no one in his family.
'Did Damien buy it?' Alex thought but quickly brushed away that thought. Damien would have surely dragged him along if that was the case.
"Then who could that be?" Alex thought while his hands gently moved along the body of the car, feeling the metallic touch.
As Alex stood there thinking, he noticed that the house was lit brighter than usual. He could feel that whoever it was, they must be important. Important enough for the Rutherfords to actually put in so much effort.
But why did no one tell him anything about it? Thinking that, Alex pulled out his phone, and to his surprise, there were indeed a couple of missed calls and a few messages from both his mother and brother.
"Well..." There was nothing he could do. Most likely, it was some investor here to talk about some upcoming project. Alex decided not to give it much thought.
"I am home," Alex announced, opening the door.
"You finally decided to show up," Alex didn't even enter the house properly when he heard his mother complain, "I told you to be home early, didn't I?"
"And why the hell were you not answering your phone? How many times do you think me and your brother called you?"
"I was visiting a frien..." Alex wanted to answer, but Martha was on her own high horse. She grabbed Alex by his hand and pulled him inside the house.
"Whatever," Martha interrupted Alex, "Come, I want you to meet someone."
Inside the house, George and Damien were already present.
George was sitting on his comfortable armchair with a relaxed posture. He leaned back slightly, crossing one leg over the other. His face showed a surprisingly serious look.
Damien, on the other hand, sat on the couch and, unlike his usual carefree attitude, he looked attentive. His feet were planted firmly on the floor, and he leaned forward slightly while his hands rested on his lap, and his gaze was fixed on the other person in the room. A girl
Was it love at first sight?
"Audrey, meet my son, Alex," As soon as they walked in, Martha introduced Alex to the girl.
The girl was in her mid-twenties. She sat there gracefully on the couch opposite George and Damien, exuding a sense of poise and confidence. Her dress was a knee-length, flowing sundress with a vibrant floral pattern. The colours were a mix of pastels and bold hues, complementing her youthful charm.
The dress had a fitted bodice, accentuating her feminine figure, while the skirt billowed out gently, creating a light and airy appearance.
And the delicate necklace adorning her slender neck, and a few dainty bracelets on her wrist, added a hint of sparkle to her ensemble.
"Hello," with a warm smile on her face, the girl greeted Alex.
"Hi!" Alex greeted back. His face had no visible emotions other than a bit of confusion. Trying to understand the situation, he turned towards Martha.
"She is?" Alex asked.
"She is Audrey. My friend."
