Chapter 46: Compensation (7)
Chapter 46: Compensation (7)
Since they were more adept at the use of magic, Rina and Shalia managed to speed up quite a bit the speed of the hunt. The only downside was that Luke had to stop using his Spark Ball. Still, that wasn’t a problem, but an investment since he could see many potions and items dropped by zombies on the ground, half an hour late when they finally finished that horde.
“My plan of leaving the city looks more distant by the minute…” Luke said and then sighed while he was grabbing the loot.
That horde only had a little less than one thousand zombies. It was a laughable number compared to the one Luke will have to face. Not to mention, Luke’s backpack was Started to get crumpled… of low-quality potions. They were better than nothing, but they certainly won’t be that effective against thousands upon thousands of enemies.
Luke got some weapons like a tier two whip that had many turns, a tier two ax, and another greatsword. Using them with Weapon Augmentation, Luke could instantly kill a few dozens of zombies, but that wasn’t enough…
“I have two more hours before sunset… so I suppose I should fight another horde,” Luke said. “At this point in time, even if it is suicide, I have to leave Miami tomorrow.”
The number of mutated zombies will be too high in the day after tomorrow, so Luke decided to accept the risks. Unfortunately, Luke didn’t find another horde that was big enough if compared to the previous. He only found smaller groups here and there that didn’t approach the main horde blocking the path up north for one reason or the other. Luke checked that area as well since it would be more efficient to fight there. However, he decided not to do it because he couldn’t approach and confirm how many mutant zombies were there in the darkness or the night. He also was afraid of the possibility of luring a large number of zombies that would stick together to hunt the survivors. In the end, the first group made Luke level up three times, but the next ones only made him level up a single time. Fortunately, he compensated a little for that by leveling up his Fire Resistance and Stinger.

“I guess it is show time…” Luke said while looking toward the eastern sky and noticing that the light blue was returning. “Save your energy, I will deal with the stray wolves.”
Rina and Shalia nodded since their power wasn’t completely back. Even though they could use enough mana to kill dozens of zombies. Nevertheless, Luke ran around the area in search of the starving wolves, but even though he left them alone for four hours, their numbers didn’t grow all that much. He only found around twenty of them.
“This is weird…” Luke said.
“Not at all, while the owner of the crystal might be using the newest members of their species on this planet, it doesn’t mean that this is the only hunting ground they are using,” Rina explained. “They might be attacking other worlds, or they might being attacked as well and thus are forced to defend their territories with the more experienced members of their species.”
It didn’t seem like a good idea to multitask when your world is being destroyed or sacrificing hundreds of wolf puppies, for that matter. Nevertheless, Luke could learn a few things from their mistakes. If he ever gets on his hands the power to attack other worlds, he probably won’t use weak humans and help them grow stronger. He will go to other worlds to monopolize the experience.
Those twenty wolves were scattered across the area, and since they were alone, they posed no threat against Luke, who had obtained more power than them. Once that was done, he headed toward the crystal and confirmed that things were the same as before. The wolves were spawning only once every five minutes, though. After taking some deep breaths to calm down and raise his concentration. Then suddenly, he got up and dashed toward the enemies.
The starving wolves quickly noticed Luke’s intentions and prepared themselves to fight, but Luke ignored the first ones that just waited for his attack. The other ones finally realized that he was aiming for the crystal dasher toward him, but before they could become a nuisance, Luke stopped them with Spark Balls. In the end, Luke only had to pass by fifteen of the monsters before he finally reached the crystal, the other wolves that were defending other parts of the formation dashed toward him, but they didn’t arrive on time. Without a hint of hesitation, Luke used Stinger on the crystal… making it shatter in hundreds of parts. There was no way he would fight all those fifty monsters without getting rid of the crystal first. After all, the damn thing could keep spawning monsters…

Luke completed his first goal in that fight. Still, while it decreased the difficulty level in some aspects, it increased in others since it enraged the starving wolves. When he turned around to run, Luke found five of them quickly approaching, but Shalia attacked them with her ice arrows, making them freeze their faces for a short while. Luke used that chance to attack them with all his might, and while he had the chance to kill two of them, the others soon recovered. That was what he gets for trying to save mana…
Despite that, Luke got what he wanted, he opened a path, and now he could run away and fight the monsters one at a time… he just had to make sure to be fast enough and to not make any mistake…
