Surgery Godfather

Chapter 127 - 0124: The Growing Sanbo

Chapter 127: Chapter 0124: The Growing Sanbo

After repeated discussions, the plan had been polished to perfection.

Professor Su was entrusted by others to come for consultation, but time was limited, so the problem had to be resolved as soon as possible.

“If no one has any objections, let’s arrange the surgery as soon as possible. It will be performed under local anesthesia with a post-approach pedicle needle puncture of the Thoracic 2 nerve root sheath and microcatheter pain pump implantation,” Professor Su spoke, putting down his tablet.

Director Zhao looked around and everyone seemed to agree, so the consultation could be concluded, “Thank you all, let us arrange the surgery immediately.”

“Nanchen, contact the Digital Medical Research Institute of Medical University to send the patient’s imaging data there for immediate 3D printing.” Professor Su gave the order, his tone decisive.

Director Han immediately countered: “Professor Su, there’s no need to trouble the university, we have a 3D printer here that can be used at any time.”

He then called Director Tian, asking him to start the 3D printer and informed him that he and Professor Su’s team would be arriving at the Orthopedic Research Institute shortly.

Knowing that Sanbo had established an Orthopedic Research Institute and having received an invitation to attend an academic conference and the institute’s inauguration, Professor Su took this opportunity to gauge the strength of Sanbo’s Orthopedic Research Institute.

Everyone dispersed, with Director Han leading the group to the Orthopedic Research Institute for a tour. The two directors of the Pain Department and the director of the Tumor Hospital didn’t have much interest in the Orthopedic Research Institute, but they tagged along to take a look anyway.

Director Han and Professor Su led the way, with the rest following behind.

There was a connecting garden between the Overseas Chinese Building and the Department of Orthopedics. Passing through the garden, Su Nanchen noticed an auntie in patient clothing taking a walk. She looked familiar and, upon closer inspection, he recognized her as one of his patients. He wondered why she was admitted here.

The auntie recognized Dr. Su and waved, approaching him, “Dr. Su, what a coincidence meeting you here! Have you been transferred to this hospital?”

“Not at all, I came for a meeting. Are you still experiencing weakness in your right knee? Why haven’t you come for a follow-up?” Dr. Su asked, puzzled.

This patient had been diagnosed with a loose body in her right knee at Fuer Hospital and underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove it but showed no signs of relief.

The patient sought treatment at Fu Hospital where she happened to be treated by Dr. Su. Reviewing her postoperative MRI, no loose body was found, her meniscus was normal and there were no tears. They checked her head and spine MRIs and didn’t find any issues, ruling out pseudoparesis. After a lot of analysis, they considered it as a hypermobile lateral meniscus.

Dr. Su performed a second arthroscopic surgery on her and indeed found a hypermobile lateral meniscus, so he treated it.

However, she showed no signs of relief post-surgery. This confused Dr. Su, so he sent the patient’s information via email to his mentor in America, an expert in sports medicine at the New York Special Surgery Hospital. His mentor said he needed to study the case and did not reply immediately.

The auntie demonstrated to Dr. Su, bending and stretching her knee, walking a few brisk steps, and then squatting and standing up. Smiling happily, she said, “You see, it’s all good now, completely normal. I had the surgery this morning and can be discharged tomorrow.”

Dr. Su was surprised, “Which doctor performed your surgery, Director Han?”

“Dr. Yang!” the auntie replied.

Dr. Yang turned out to be a student of Director Han, which made Dr. Su take a new look at him.

“Dr. Su, you guys should study my case to gain experience,” the auntie advised.

Though she spoke casually, she unintentionally bruised Dr. Su’s ego, making him feel slightly embarrassed. After saying goodbye to the auntie, Dr. Su quickly caught up with the tour group.

Intentionally, he walked closer to Yang Ping, looking for an opportunity to learn about the patient’s diagnosis and how the surgery was performed. He was very curious about the case.

Along the way, Director Han was enlightening everyone about the recent developments at Sanbo Orthopedics. While they had not taken Sanbo seriously before, seeing its rapid and steady progress now, they suddenly realized that Sanbo was not the same as before, and its orthopedics department had quietly grown stronger.

Upon receiving the call, Director Tian also called Song Zimo to the Orthopedic Research Institute. They had worked together on a project involving 3D printing and were very familiar with the printer’s operating procedure.

This top-of-the-line German 3D printer, not a mold level but a machine tool level printer, worth tens of millions, was the core equipment of the Orthopedic Research Institute.

Even Nandu Medical University’s Institute of Digital Medicine didn’t have a 3D printer of such caliber; they only had mold level printers and had to collaborate with professional factories for machine tool level ones.

Just as a warrior adores his exceptional weapon, academic researchers were naturally infatuated with excellent research equipment.

Professor Su circled the large 3D printer, adjusting his glasses to examine every detail, admiring, “This is incredible, truly remarkable.”

Professor Yu from Fuer also followed suit, but he seemed somewhat displeased.

The research institute’s hardware equipment was so formidable, including talents who almost all held doctorates from prestigious universities, which left Professor Su astonished. Whether in terms of talent or hardware facilities, Sanbo had already reached the forefront of G City and surpassed the Provincial People’s Hospital and the City People’s Hospital.

The data had already been downloaded from the imaging center and transferred to the 3D printer’s host. All parameters were set by Director Tian and Song Zimo, and the printing began.

Bit by bit, the printed base material was sprayed out in the transparent mold printing chamber. Slowly, the patient’s complete torso model was printed. The chamber cover automatically opened, and the model was sent out.

Yang Ping and Song Zimo moved the model to the display table. The one-to-one model was incredibly detailed and clear, showing the structure of the spine, spinal cord, nerve root, tumor, and blood vessels.

Director Xu from the Pain Department had already sent a set of intraspinal pain pump puncture tools, and Song Zimo had also prepared a set of vertebroplasty puncture tools. Both tools would be combined to complete the puncture for this patient.

“Big brother, what’s the situation?” Song Zimo asked, who was also paying attention to this patient.

“Thoracic 2 nerve root block, per-arachnoid puncture, and 3D printed puncture simulation,” Yang Ping told him.

“Don’t we have 3D reconstruction? We can use navigation, why simulate a puncture?” Song Zimo felt it was complicated, unaware of the heated discussions during the consultation meeting.

Su Nanchen gave Song Zimo a glance. Although not familiar, they recognized each other. He knew that Director Han brought a genius doctor from Fudan University.

This proud individual, who called Yang Ping his senior and showed no arrogance nor usual aloofness in front of him, made Su Nanchen feel strange. Was Yang Ping that amazing to tame Song Zimo?

Because time was limited, Su Nanchen didn’t think further and started the simulated puncture. He was looking for the optimal angle, measuring the length of the catheter, and preparing for precise puncturing during surgery.

“You guys carry on with the simulated puncture here, I’ll take Professor Su for a tour of the operating room,” Director Han commanded Yang Ping and Song Zimo to accompany Su Nanchen.

Director Han brought Professor Su and his team to look at the operating room. The operating theaters of the operation center were not separate ones for the Orthopedics Department.

Professor Su seemed very interested in the operating rooms, especially the few for orthopedics. He tried to go in and take a look in each room and asked very detailed questions.

Professor Su was particularly concerned about emergency surgeries: “Are there many orthopedic emergency surgeries at night here?”

Director Han replied, “There are quite a lot now. The Trauma Emergency Center performs a serious trauma emergency surgery every day.”

Professor Su murmured, “That’s quite hard work.”

“I heard that you bought the Tianji Orthopedic Surgery Robot?” Director Yu said. Fuer bought Da Vinci for the Thoracic Surgery Department and General Surgery, but the Orthopedics Department’s request to buy a Tianji had been delayed.

Director Han led everyone to see the Tianji surgical robot. “Let’s go and have a look. It’s in the multi-function operating room here. It has already been put into use. I think a surgery is being performed right now.”

Director Han led everyone to the multi-functional operating room. One of the multi-functional operating rooms for orthopedics was already in use and was performing a surgery. The radiation warning light at the door was on, indicating that the navigation device inside was running.

From the corridor, through the small window, they could see a surgery was in progress. Everyone was very interested.

“Director Tan is performing a robot surgery.” Director Han suggested everyone wait before entering.

There was radiation inside, so they could only enter after the navigation operation was suspended.

Tan Boyun was operating the robot arm in the operating room, performing percutaneous sacroiliac screw fixation surgery for the pelvis.

Tan Boyun had always had a falling out with Director Yu. Hearing that Tan had already begun robot surgery, had moved ahead, it upset Director Yu.

Director Yu thought, Tan Boyun had been oppressed by him at Fuer since always. This time, after moving to Sanbo, he did not break down the relationship with Han Jiangong, as Director Yu had thought. Instead, he rose rapidly. He heard that Tan would be the main character at the upcoming Asia Trauma Orthopedics Summit, a role given by Han Jiangong.

The more he thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt. Under normal thinking, no one wants their opponents to do too well.

The screw had been accurately implanted into the sacroiliac joint, the navigation function was stopped, and the radiation warning light was turned off. Director Han led everyone in.

Tan Boyun came out of the operating room and saw that Director Han had brought so many people. He recognized Professor Su, Director Yu, and the Pain Department Director from Fuer.

“Director Tan, you must be tired. Is the robot handy? Professor Su, Director Yu, they came for consultation today, and everyone wanted to see our robot,” Director Han introduced.

Tan Boyun shook hands with everyone, “It is tiring, but the Tianji Surgery Robot is great for orthopedics. I have completed over a dozen cases, which were very smooth.”

Seeing Tan Boyun’s excited look, Director Yu felt increasingly upset.
