Chapter 684: Chapter 678: Power

The communication request was quickly answered, but when Finn Lewis appeared on the screen, Wind Martin knew that the situation was unlikely to be negotiable. However, since the other side hadn’t fired immediately, there might still be a sliver of hope.

“Lord Martin, it’s been a while,” said Lewis with a hint of indifference.

“Your Highness, I believe there’s a misunderstanding between us,” countered Martin. Although he didn’t want to back down, in this situation, he had to. The jump engines were jammed, meaning they could not make the jump. Without the ability to jump, they could only rely on the flight engines to escape. However, considering the distance of the enemy fleet and the arsenal detected by their own ships, their flight engines wouldn’t stand a chance against the assault.

“Misunderstanding? Haha. Are you kidding, Lord Martin? Weren’t you relentlessly chasing me a few days back? Weren’t you declaring that I was as good as dead? So where is this ‘misunderstanding’ coming from now? Oh, I almost forgot. Your headquarters should be nothing but rubble by now—if all has gone as planned,” Lewis responded coldly with a smirk, then his expression quickly turned icy.

“If you spare us, Your Highness, we will pledge our loyalty and serve under your command,” Martin muttered somberly.

“You can forget about bargaining for your lives. You didn’t plan on sparing mine either. Of course, if you’re willing to reveal who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes, I wouldn’t mind paying them a visit someday. Otherwise, prepare to meet your fate,” Lewis said with chilly detachment. “You should have anticipated the consequences when you threatened my family.”

Martin fell silent instantly and after a long pause, he responded, “If you don’t plan on sparing us, Your Highness, then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. We won’t reveal anything. We have nothing to lose, whether we talk or not, we’re already marked for death. So you won’t get the information you want.”

“Then go ahead and die. I couldn’t care less about that information because I already know who the puppet master is. To them, you are disposable pawns. Since you’re willingly dying for them and even ready to take their secrets to the grave, then I won’t hesitate to oblige you. Luna Starfield, attack!” Lewis abruptly cut the transmission and ordered Luna Starfield to start the attack.

Following Lewis’ command, Luna Starfield launched the assault, and in space, countless blue points of the Hammer of Destruction, previously deployed at strategic locations, began to light up rapidly. Even though the Hammer of Destruction picked up the pace slowly, its acceleration was frightening.

Lewis did not know how its engine was designed, but the multitude of the Hammers of Destruction switched on rapidly. The enemy’s movements were soon displayed on the three-dimensional projection battlefield of the Luna Starfield’s bridge, where Lewis was stationed. The enemy’s defense dome was activated, along with the release of several small black metal objects.

“The Thunder Defense System. But it’s no use; it’s virtually useless against the Hammer of Destruction,” Jasmine Davis, standing on Lewis’ side, explained. Nodding, Lewis kept his gaze on the Thunder Defense System, curious about how it worked.

Soon, Lewis understood the system’s defense mechanism. When the Hammer of Destruction ran its course and entered the range of the Thunder Defense System, it directly plunged into it. The surrounding metal objects quickly converged on the entry point, and the exterior was swiftly moved to the back, forming a new front line, effectively blocking the path of any incoming threat.

The system worked by utilizing densely packed physical objects for defense. It was a great tool for preventing space torpedoes or mecha invasions. However, against the Hammer of Destruction, it was as ineffectual as Davis had said. By the time it reached the Thunder Defense System, the Hammer of Destruction was already at a terrifying speed, while not quite reaching the speed of light, it was already down to more than half.

With the terrifying speed and a high spin rate, the Hammer of Destruction broke through the Thunder Defense System almost instantaneously. Its pointed tip made contact with the energy shield, causing the dim shield to burst into bright light before it was punctured, and the Hammer of Destruction plunged straight into one of the battleships.

Additionally, Lewis noticed a flaw in the Hammers of Destruction—they couldn’t change direction. Once the target was locked, the direction couldn’t be altered. Any agile warship could evade them with relative ease. Therefore, what made them truly menacing was the sheer number of them.

But now, their numbers were absolutely sufficient, and the distance between the enemy’s ships was close enough. Although they started to take evasive actions, the flight engines’ initial speed was not very high. Moreover, the speed of the Hammers of Destruction only took a few seconds.

With a resounding “Boom”, a severe explosion sent a ship into a burst of intense fire in space. Even though sound could not travel in space, Lewis echoed the thunderous explosion in his mind. At this moment, all the battleships had approached the enemy quickly, and the main cannon’s charge was already complete.

“Fire the main cannons!” Over a hundred horrifying high-energy plasma cannons released from the muzzle, leaving trails of a lighter blue against the backdrop of space. The beams traversed several hundred thousand kilometers almost instantly, hurtling towards the enemy’s fleet.

With another loud explosion, the two leading battleships bore the brunt of the devastating plasma cannons discharged by three battleships and disintegrated instantaneously into brilliant fireworks in space. The outcome of the battle was now evident. Within half an hour, the enemy fleet had been reduced to space debris. None had escaped. Not only were there Hammers of Destruction deployed around, but countless space torpedoes as well.

With the jump engines jammed and rendered unusable, the fate of these battleships was sealed. Their counterattacks couldn’t pierce the fleet that had activated the Overlook Defense System. When the last few battleships were being destroyed, Luna Starfield spoke suddenly: “Your Highness, we’ve received a file sent by the enemy. It was sent in the final moments before their destruction.”

“What does it say?” Lewis asked, surprised.

“It’s a message from Wind Martin. He said their puppet master had ordered him to capture you alive, apparently to take advantage of your status for some purpose. They also mentioned that their interest in your territory is not due to the human inhabitants on the planet, who could be turned into life essence. Although that is indeed valuable, worth maybe several trillion star credits, he said that does not seem to be the main objective of those people,” reported Luna Starfield hastily.
