Chapter 371: Pure Slander

Seven Sins System Chapter 371. Pure Slander

The van bumped along the road, and I could feel Puriel's breath tickling my ear. Her heartbeat was practically pounding against my chest. If we were in any other situation, this might've looked like we were a couple, all tangled up after a heated night. But nope, that's not what was going on here. The air between us was thick with tension, the kind that screamed awkward from miles away.

She had her eyes squeezed shut like she was pretending to be asleep, but I could feel the waves of hatred coming off her. Maybe it was the close quarters, or maybe it was just the fact that we were stuck in this weird position together. Either way, things were far from cozy.

'Don't blame me for this! You're the one who's stuck with me,' I grumbled in my head, a silent jab at her. Even though we were basically squashed together in the back of a van, nothing about our relationship had changed. We were still rivals. That fact wasn't going anywhere, no matter how awkward the situation got.

But enough about that. I pushed the uncomfortable tension aside and focused on the other people in the van. They were the ones who really mattered right now.

'Greed.'

A little tentacle extended from my finger and turned into a tiny mosquito, buzzing off to do a quick recon of the situation. Five people in the van. One grumpy driver up front and four goons in the back, none of them wearing masks anymore, which was good because it let me see their faces. None of them looked familiar, just a random group of thugs. I couldn't even be bothered to care about them—except the one with bruises all over his face. That one had gotten the most out of Puriel's resistance. Looks like he was still nursing his wounds.

"Tie them up! Tie them up!" One of the goons barked orders as they grabbed some ropes. They were clearly no strangers to this kind of work, moving like pros as they tied Puriel and me up. To top it off, they slapped a big chunk of duct tape over my mouth like I was some sort of hostage prop. Once they had us hogtied, they tossed us around like we were nothing, unceremoniously tossing us onto the van floor.

"Hey! Be careful! We're at a red light! You wanna get caught?!" The driver barked at them through the rearview mirror, throwing a mini tantrum.

"Sorry," one of the kidnappers muttered, looking genuinely sorry.

"Shut up! Just focus!" Another one snapped, killing any further complaints.

Their conversation was an odd mix of sinister and casual, like they'd done this sort of thing before.

"Good thing the kidnapping went smoothly," one of them said with satisfaction.

The bruised one, still clutching his face like it was a personal betrayal, groaned. "The woman's got skills, I'll give her that. Took a chunk of me."

A few of the others nodded. "She's a paladin, after all," one said, recognizing the strength they'd clearly underestimated.

The bruised kidnapper sneered, plotting something twisted. "Once we get her back to base, I'm gonna make her pay for that. Maybe rape her, just to show her who's in charge."

A pause hung as the others exchanged glances. "Not allowed," came a stern voice, quickly shutting down the idea. "We take them to the Lord of Wrath first. He gets the first turn, then we get ours."

"Yeah, we don't want to piss the Lord off, right?" another one piped up, his voice laced with fear.

The bruised one, seemingly forgetting an important detail, frowned. "Right. I forgot about that rule. Been a hard rule since the last great war three hundred years ago."

There was a moment of silent acknowledgment, and then one of the kidnappers shrugged, clearly accepting it. "Whatever. I don't care. Besides, all the women who've been with the Lord of Wrath look way more obedient after their time with him."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

The bruised one chuckled darkly. "Can't expect any less from our leader, right?"

I nearly cringed at the way they casually talked about such disturbing things. It was like listening to a twisted, morally bankrupt podcast.

'Wait, wait, wait! I never did any of that stuff during the war! My soldiers didn't either! Why are they exaggerating?! This is pure slander!' I screamed in my mind. It was honestly hard to believe what I was hearing. During the war, my focus was entirely on defeating the goddess and conquering the light realm. At no point did I ever engage in those kinds of acts. It wasn't even on my radar.

To top it off, I had never had any interest in mortal women. Sure, there were a few who tried to use seduction as a way to gain power or influence, but they were so transparent it was laughable. Some would even offer to bear my child if I gave them wealth and power. The nerve.

But I wasn't interested. Not even in the slightest. It wasn't about moral superiority; it was about efficiency. If I wanted something, I would take it. No negotiations, no games. I wasn't going to play their little power games. It was just boring.

The real issue was, three hundred years ago, I had way bigger fish to fry. I was focused on winning the war, not dealing with ridiculous attempts at seduction from power-hungry mortals. Hell, women weren't even on my mind at all during that time. They were just distractions, nothing more.

I had made sure my soldiers followed suit. The last thing I needed was my army getting caught off guard by women seeking to exploit their desires. It wasn't about morality; it was about efficiency.

Screw morality!

So yeah, hearing these kidnappers talk about the things they were going to do with us, it felt like complete nonsense. I'd had bigger things to worry about, like winning the war and conquering realms. None of this crap was even close to being on my list of priorities.
