Chapter 319: Chapter 319- Jenny's memories (3)
"Can we really kill him?" A pink-haired woman wearing a cloak stood inside a place, looking toward the direction where Amayara was lying while being crushed under the feet of another woman.
'What the heck?' Esme thought about looking at a new scene.
They had just transitioned from a scene where a girl, who was talking about killing a man, had been acting like an intense lover engaged in the pinnacle of ecstasy in the previous memory slide. Now she was standing there, contemplating his death.
'What nonsense?' Esme couldn't understand what kind of rotten brain cells this woman had to even have the audacity to think everything should align according to her whims.
Even after seeing those memories, she felt like killing this woman hundreds of times.
Even though Esme was just a reader right now, going through all these memories like some story, rather than experiencing firsthand how stupid and messed up Jenny's perspective was.
But, whatever
Esme was more than under control, given that she had emotional immunity whenever she used her illusions or infiltrated another person's mind.
Her ability provided a mechanism where those people's memories and emotions couldn't influence her.
No matter how pitiful their memories were, she would not feel any pity or sympathy; her emotions would become null at that moment.
But even with her emotions being suppressed, Esme felt genuinely pissed off while going through all the memories Jenny possessed.
This was utter garbage.
If Esme had to summarize all the things she had seen until now, it would be: a sadistic woman who would have been beaten by a nobleman on a daily basis if not saved by a savior still demands to know why she was treated well.
When that savior tried to expose the reality of this world to her, she acted as if she believed him before backstabbing him.
Of course, all these memories weren't in chronological order given that memories are not stamped with time; the mind always forgets many in between while keeping only those that have some value.
Additionally, there were several distorted memories that contained errors, with some of the individuals' faces not clearly visible.
'Now you are seeing how much I suffered!' Jenny's consciousness cried out as all those memories that had been buried deep down were flashing one after another, prompting her to remember the moments of pain when she just wanted to save her family but found them killed.
'Why are you still alive?' Esme felt utterly confused. Though she was in control of her emotions, she was genuinely surprised that a foolish person could still survive in this world, let alone remain alive after betraying Ryuk.
Naturally, anyone in his place would have killed her in the first place.
Let's forget about that; even this world would have rejected a low IQ person like her.
Then how the hell did she still survive in this harsh world with that childish mind of hers?
'What?' Jenny's consciousness tried to show its confusion at Esme's voice.
Unbeknownst to Esme, Jenny, even though having a modest perspective of this world, still survived due to having very strong plot armor, giving her the boost to remain alive until the end.
'Diana seems manipulative, Amayara is pitiful, Alia seems...isn't that my sister?' Esme, who was going through the memories while recognizing and remembering those women, suddenly halted at one of them, looking at a physical appearance that definitely matched the memories of her sister, who also had the same name.
But again,
'No...is she really?' Esme, just for curiosity, found Alia similar to her sister's physical appearance. She started to go through all the memories of the journey where Alia was present.
And naturally, she found that.
Not just similar; it was her sister.
'Eh?'
'Leave me, you monster!' Of course, Jenny's voice had to come in between to disturb the things.
'I see, so my sister betrayed him, hmm.' Esme didn't react emotionally, only because her ability was working naturally.
Right now, she was devoid of any emotion, like a machine just going through the stories.
There were no emotions, but only processing, where her mind was taking decisions without letting any emotions influence her thoughts about this particular thing.
Literally, if it were her real body with emotions, seeing these memories and even the revelation that it was her sister, she would have been distraught beyond control.
That would have made her mind fill with trauma that would have made her doubt if Ryuk came to know about this, what would be his reaction.
Would he really accept the sister of a betrayer?
But right now, it was her judgment mechanism, not emotions.
Knowing the effect this memory would have on the real body, she lifted her finger and snapped it.
As she did, all the memories of Alia inside Jenny's mind started to distort. It was too fast and enough to erase the existence of such an individual found inside Jenny's memories by Esme.
In conclusion, to protect its real body, her ability, due to caution, had sealed its own memory about finding her real sister.
'Next,' Esme snapped her finger again, playing the continuation of memories.
Due to not having enough knowledge about the identity of each individual, except recognizing some of them like Alisia Devereaux and others.
But it was a useless memory.
There was no clarity given that Jenny's mind had started to forget these things and was trying to fill the gaps.
All were distorted, so except for seeing some figures having conversations and a memory where an unknown woman had pressed down that bodyguard young woman, Esme wasn't able to see clearly that woman's face nor get much useful information.
The major part which played in the role of destroying those memories were the forced consciousness of Jenny believing what her mind thought being true, portraying things in a distorted way where even her memories were influenced to the point where everything that occurred was filled with intense emotions, just like how when her family was getting executed, the emotion it had at that time was outrage and anger towards the crown prince of the Selvius kingdom.
But due to the emotional filter on, Esme was immune to all this. Or else, her own perspective would have been influenced, making her feel sympathy for this woman.
It was similar to how a reader interprets a scene where a man saves a little girl from an accident but dies.
While their minds process this whole scene from their perspective, some would consider how heroic he was, while others would think of how foolish and idiotic he was to not care about his own life in order to save the girl.
Right now, Esme's state of entering someone's mind was similar; she was seeing, or more specifically, reading the thoughts.
"Aaaahhh! You monster! He was innocent!"
"Of course he was, after killing thousands with his own hands and then blaming me for not being righteous."
Suddenly, another piece of memory began to play, and surprisingly, this was crystal clear, not distorted, as if it was embedded in her very being.
It prompted each emotion, expression, and everything was clearly visible, giving Esme the space to process what she saw as she looked around and found a whole battlefield drenched in blood. It was hell, a complete hell, and in that hell stood the man.
The man whom she recognized at first glance.
'So, these are those seven.' Esme looked towards the bloodied bodies of seven women scattered across the battlefield.
Though she was able to recognize a few of them, due to Jenny's distorted memory—which was most likely a result of her low IQ—she wasn't able to identify the others, but she knew their names: Henna and Maria.
