Chapter 57
C57 – Coach Wang’s Doubt
Wang Yangming, upon hearing this, deliberated on the matter, his countenance betraying his disappointment.
“Sigh! Very well, then.”
“This young lad, his intelligence took me by surprise.”
“Very well, Principal Guo, please proceed with your duties.”
With those words, Wang Yangming departed, escorted by Principal Guo, his spirits deflated.
As he left the principal’s office, Wang Yangming couldn’t help but dwell on Jiang Hao’s extraordinary basketball talent, finding it hard to come to terms with.
……
In Grade 12 Class 8, Jiang Hao, also known as Ren Lao, was peacefully dozing at his desk. No one took offense; instead, they regarded him with admiration and reverence.
Observing Jiang Hao, it was evident that he effortlessly topped the four-school joint exams daily, even while dozing, leaving his peers lagging far behind, no matter how diligently they worked.
Truly, geniuses defied all logic!
At that moment, Wang Yangming entered the Grade 12 Class 8 classroom.
A hushed murmur swept through the room instantly. Everyone was aware of the conversation between Wang Yangming and Jiang Hao.
“Coach Wang went to see the principal. I wonder if the principal agreed.”
“I doubt the principal would agree. How could Jiang Hao, the top scorer in the four-school joint exam, be designated as an athlete?”
“Maybe the principal didn’t recognize that it was Jiang Hao and granted approval?”
……
Wang Yangming directed his gaze at Jiang Hao, who lay sleeping on the desk, seemingly oblivious to the tense atmosphere.
Were it not for Principal Guo’s personal assurance, Wang Yangming would have never believed that a student who appeared to be constantly asleep possessed the astonishing intellect to score 747 points.
Approaching Jiang Hao’s desk, he lightly tapped it. Jiang Hao, who had been mentally engrossed in the system, snapped back to reality.
When he looked up and saw Wang Yangming, he greeted him with a curious smile.
“Oh, it’s you, Coach Wang. What did the principal say?”
Wang Yangming glanced at Jiang Hao, who had shifted all responsibility to the principal, and comprehended the situation.
“He truly is a clever lad!”
His admiration for Jiang Hao continued to grow.
“The principal declined the request!”
Upon Wang Yangming’s statement, the classroom buzzed with discussions among the students.
“I told you so, the principal was never going to agree!”
Jiang Hao remained unsurprised by these comments, having already anticipated this outcome.
Jiang Hao then turned to Wang Yangming with a polite smile and expressed his regrets.
“I apologize, Coach Wang.”
Wang Yangming regarded the courteous Jiang Hao and nodded in response.
“It’s alright, but should you change your mind, remember that you’re always welcome to approach me.”
Having said that, he appeared disheartened. Under Jiang Hao’s watchful gaze, Wang Yangming turned to depart.
After taking a couple of steps, he suddenly pivoted, his brows furrowed with apparent curiosity.
“Jiang Hao, may I ask you something?”
Jiang Hao was momentarily taken aback but quickly regained his composure.
“Of course, go ahead.”
Wang Yangming hesitated briefly before speaking.
“I’ve noticed you sleep often, yet your academic performance is exceptional. What’s your secret?”
Wang Yangming’s question resonated with the thoughts of all the students in the room.
Many students also looked at Jiang Hao expectantly.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Hao paused briefly but soon grasped the context.
Wang Yangming must have learned about his top ranking in the joint exam among the four schools.
Yet, how should he respond to this question?
Could he claim to have a hidden advantage?
Such a claim would be met with disbelief.
A faint smile played on the corner of Jiang Hao’s lips as he regarded Wang Yangming’s puzzled expression.
“Coach Wang, geniuses are seldom understood.”
Wang Yangming’s eyes reflected a mix of comprehension and astonishment upon hearing this response.
Observing Jiang Hao’s self-assured demeanor, he nodded and departed.
