My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 57 Player Of The Week Nominations

[ Physical Status ]

[ Strength: 21 ]

[ Dexterity: 22 ]

[ Endurance: 16 ]

<Well at least your stats are starting to look good now>

"Yeah," Dave said before picking up his water bottle which was lying on the floor.

His strength and dexterity had entered the twenties with the help of that quest and he still had two extra stat points to spare.

'I'm definitely going to put it in dexterity when the time comes.'

<You should know that although dexterity is your most important physical stat as a goalkeeper, doesn't mean that the other two aren't that important> Catherine said. <You need strength to be able to win balls in tough situations against tough players and you also need your endurance stats to be high for you to go through certain conditions without sustaining any injury>

'I get your point but dexterity will keep getting most of the stat points except in situations like this where the points are shared equally.'

<I'm not stopping you>

'Okay.'

"Now," He said with a sigh as he quickly got up from the floor. "It's time to switch to level five and complete another quest."

<Trust me, the quest won't be something you will expect>

'How hard is it going to possibly be?' He replied while picking up the balls around the area.

It didn't take him long to gather all eight balls and get them to the machine.

<Just fill the balls into the machine and find out>

'Okay.' He replied.

He filled up the blaster with the ball and clicked the level five button before quickly making his way to his goal line.

[ Quest received ]

[ Keep out all eight balls making at least four catches ]

[ Quest rewards ]

[ +2 skill points ]

[ +20 exp ]

'What the?' He said subconsciously as he stared at the quest message with a baffled expression on his face.

He had not heard her laugh before but he could swear he could hear Catherine giggling in his mind now.

<The quest is meant to be a challenge the do things that may seem impossible to you, just do it!>

He wasn't exactly feeling the vibe after receiving that quest and to add to his distraction, he heard the sound of a car engine as someone had driven a vehicle into his vicinity.

The first ball was shot out and he didn't even bother to try and catch it as it went for the top right-hand corner and fell into the goal post.

[ Quest failed ]

<You seriously couldn't make an attempt>

'I'll try later Catherine.'

<Okay, but if your stats increase in any way before then, the quest might get harder or you may not even get it>

Dave didn't reply as he walked toward the garage area to see a black Lexus IS parked beside his black Toyota Rav4 2021.

It didn't take long before Mateo stepped down from his car, he was putting on a pair of black jeans trousers with white sneakers and for his top, he was putting on a white collarless shirt and black jacket.

"Hey," Mateo said, making his way to him after slamming his car's door shut. "I thought I was going to see you in the stands last night."

"Honestly I wanted to come but I went out with Emma and by the time we got home, we were tired and the match was about to begin," Dave said as they did their normal handshake before the shoulder bump.

"Oh, you guys went to treat yourselves," Mateo said.

"Not exactly."

"Where did you go?" Mateo asked.

"The shopping mall, the largest one in the city," Dave replied.

"Oh, so you guys went shopping in style," Mateo said, making his way into the lawn.

"Something like that," Dave said with a shrug before following him.

Just as the young winger entered the lawn his eyes caught the blaster facing the goalpost as the blaster shot a ball into the goalpost.

"What's that?" He asked, turning his gaze to Dave.

"It's my ball blaster, I use it to train," Dave explained.

"Oh, I can see the reason for the improvement," Mateo said with a nod.

"So, are you here to talk about what happened the other day at training or about last night's match?"

"The first one no, I really don't mind what you told Jonas, I would have loved you to tell him more, I just didn't like the fact that you seemed pissed off while talking, you should have said it to him like he does to you, with a calm expression, Ferran wouldn't have pulled you away from there if you weren't speaking with anger." Mateo expressed.

<He's right but I'm not sure you would have even replied to him if you weren't angry>

"Then you're here to talk about last night's match then," Dave said with an awkward expression on his face.

"Um…..yeah but not exactly."

"Huh?"

"It's part of the reason why I am here but it's not the reason why I am here," Mateo said.

"Then what is the main reason why you're here?"

"Let's go inside first, we can't just stand here and talk about can we?" Mateo said before making his way to the door.

"No," Dave muttered.

Mateo made his way inside the house and after scanning the area with his eyes and ears he discovered that his sister wasn't there.

"Where's Emma?" He asked.

"Probably upstairs," Dave said before closing the door.

"Great," Mateo said before making his way to the couch.

"Huh?" Dave said before following him to the couch.

'He's acting strange for the Mateo I know.'

<That's the way people act when they are excited, I think he wants to show or tell you something exciting>

'You think?'

"So…."

"Turn on the TV." Mateo abruptly said before he could say what he wanted to know. "Turn it on and switch to the league channel."

"You didn't just come here to watch highlights, did you?"

"Hey, I have a Television in my house," Mateo said, sounding a bit offended. "Just turn it on."

"Okay," Dave said before picking up the remote and turning it on.

What was currently showing in the channel wasn't highlights like Dave thought and stated rather what was showing now was the weekly discussion session where three football experts, two males, and a female would gather in the room and talk about all the matches that were played during the week and a lot of other things. It was called the Bilbeth Premier League weekly.

"I don't understand," Dave said, staring at the screen with a confused expression on his face.

"Just watch and listen," Mateo said.

"So, Michael, which match do you think was the most entertaining of the week?" The woman asked Michael, the man sitting closer to her and directly facing the camera.

"I believe that the most entertaining match of the week was last night's match between Unique FC and Litno FC but before I explain my reason, I think it's time we announce the seven players nominated for last week's player of the week," Michael said.

"Should I read the list?" The other man asked, raising the card he was holding.

"Sure, go ahead," Michael said.

"Okay, for last week's nominated players, this may surprise a lot of people but out of seven players we have four nominations from Unique FC."

"Four nominations?" Dave said with a baffled expression on his face.

"The first player on the list is Roland Hills the Supreme United talisman, Luis Ovario from Dynamo FC, Zen Lucho from Litno FC, and the last four that I am going to call are all Unique FC players. We have Ferran Phil, Mateo Smith, Roland Ryle, and."

He paused for a while and for those few seconds, Dave's curiosity had grown beyond boundary.

"Dave Richards." He finished.

"I was nominated?" The goalkeeper said with a stunned look on his face, he couldn't believe it.
