Chapter 458: Confederacy Rebellion - 02
General Moore had gone on a day off to an unknown place, and upon his return, he had new power. He had become strong enough to stop the dissent for a short period, and through violence and absolute power, he had acquired the green light for using nuclear weapons from the council, leading to the current situation where General Moore issued an ultimatum.
"The Whispering Hall?" Envy suddenly uttered, looking at the screen from behind Daniel.
Daniel stopped reading and turned his attention toward Envy. "Huh? Are you here to call me for lunch?" he asked with a smile, to which Envy nudged him and nodded a little.
But then her eyes returned to the logo of the website and its name, the Whispering Hall.
"Danny, let me ask you something. Is the leader of this... Whispering Hall Albert Worseley?" Envy's voice carried a solemn tone, leaving Daniel feeling a sense of unease at her question.
"Yes, his name is Albert Worseley. What's wrong?" Daniel inquired.
Envy fell silent, choosing not to answer Daniel's question directly. Instead, she fixed her gaze on Daniel's notebook screen, uncertain whether she should reveal what she knew about Albert and the events of the mage civil war.
"Just... be careful around him, okay? Don't give him your unconditional trust," Envy warned, her expression filled with concern.
"Don't worry, I've got this," Daniel reassured her.
Envy nodded and headed to the dining table. Meanwhile, Daniel dialed his phone and connected to Oceanos. Within seconds, Odysseus, who was standing by at Oceanos, answered the call.
"Yes, my Lord?"
"Move our space station and the Godslayer cannon above the North American East Coast. Activate ICBM interception mode and standby. You have my authorization to use interception mode as needed. Annihilation mode will be reserved for my command," Daniel instructed.
"Already done, my Lord. Our space station and the Godslayer cannon are now orbiting above the East Coast, ETA 20 minutes," Odysseus confirmed.
"Good work. Keep me updated on any developments," Daniel replied.
"Yes, My lord." Replied Odysseus.
Daniel then switched back to the line with Albert after contacting Odysseus. He had noticed something in the information Albert provided.
"Okay, Mr. Worseley, I've noticed something in your report. It says the instability and chaos inside the Confederacy right now are your doing. Is that correct?"
"That's right, my lord," Albert replied.
Daniel was silent after hearing this, and for Albert, the silence was excruciating. A torrent of intrusive thoughts flooded his mind: being executed for overstepping the boundaries, Insubordination, or even betrayal.
He recalled permitting his team to use any means necessary to instigate the rebellion. Was his lord listening to that hypocrite witch, Envy? Shit…. Now he regretted giving them a free hand like that.
All these thoughts tormented Albert, but in truth, Daniel was just contemplating how to leverage this situation.
"Albert," he finally said, breaking the silence and causing Albert's heart to pound in anticipation.
"Can you link the rebel movement to Cao Cao? I'll set the stage for a relatively smooth takeover. We need someone to play the villain, and General Moore's sudden descent into madness provides a perfect opportunity.
You can proceed as planned, but ultimately, the masses and most of the elite must believe that it's better for the US to unite the Confederacy than to be ruled by a sadistic tyrant like General Moore."
To Albert's immense relief, this was a positive outcome. His lord didn't mind him taking such actions.
"My Lord, it will take time," Albert said. "What about nuclear weapons? Shall I send suicide squads to deal with the silos?"
"There's no need," Daniel replied confidently. "The space station and the God Slayer cannon will arrive over the East Coast in less than 20 minutes. Let them launch their missiles – none of them will reach their intended altitude." He had complete faith in the space station's ICBM interception system.
"Yes, my lord!" Albert accepted the command with glee, but just as he was about to hang up—no, he waited for his lord to hang up first, as hanging up on him was considered sacrilege, then, his lord spoke.
"Oh, and one more thing," Daniel's voice suddenly turned solemn and cold. "Next time you pull off shit like this, you give me a heads up first. I hate surprises…. Are.We.Clear?" Daniel's said word for word, his tone carried a chilling hint of threat.
Albert gulped and answered, "By your will, my lord. There will be no next time!"
After giving Albert a stern warning, Daniel hung up and let out a sigh. He hadn't anticipated Albert being so troublesome. While Daniel appreciated proactive individuals, as it indicated a progressive work ethic, there was a fine line between progressive and troublesome.
Judging by the outcome, Odysseus ordering the space station to the East Coast without him asking was considered proactive, as it aligned with his intentions.
However, Albert instigating a rebellion within the Confederacy behind his back and giving him such a sh*tty surprise clearly fell into the latter category.
"Ugh, I hate being the leader, it's so troublesome," Daniel muttered to himself. "No wonder those sycophant royals prefer creating a cabinet and going completely hand off."
"Congratulations!" Envy chimed in from the side, clapping her hands as if congratulating him on graduating from elementary school. "Now you know how much of a pain in the neck being a leader is."
Daniel could only look at her and let out another sigh at Envy's teasing antics. Setting aside his work, he walked over to the table where he saw little Sylvana sharing some of her cheesy fried chicken with Mammon, who was eating despite Envy's presence. It seemed he had overcome his fear of her.
Daniel looked at Michaela, who was still upset over the indefinite postponement of her favorite Korean drama. She picked at the dish Envy had prepared, but despite Envy's renowned culinary skills, she didn't seem to be enjoying it much.
"C'mon, cheer up. This will be over soon; at most, it will just take a few days, and the program will return," Daniel tried to console Michaela, but she continued to sulk at the thought of having to wait.
Seeing Michaela like this, Daniel could only manage a wry smile. She was really addicted to those Korean dramas. Not that he could blame her—he remembered a series about the royal palace drama that kept him awake for two days straight when he was still a university student. It was that good.
