Love So Sweet

Chapter 683 - 683 Walk You Home

683 Walk You Home

Their ride back home was quiet.

Fu Chen glanced at the girl beside him and noticed that she kept on looking at her phone. He wanted to ask her about her relationship with Doctor Bai, but seeing that Bai Xi Xi seemed preoccupied, Fu Chen could only look away.

His gaze then fell on the shopping bags beside her legs. Then, he wondered where has she been earlier.

Fu Chen raised his head and saw that the cab driver was glancing at them once in a while. Their gazes met briefly and the cab driver flashed him a smile.

Fu Chen did not know what was the cab driver thinking, but he suddenly felt awkward sitting with Bai Xi Xi in the cab.

After a while, the two of them finally arrived at the park nearby his residential area.

Fu Chen alighted from the car and was surprised to see that Bai Xi Xi was coming out as well. He did not know where she lived but could guess that there were a distance away before she would arrive at her house.

“You... Why did you come out?” Fu Chen asked. “Just let the driver send you back to your house.”

“It’s alright. I can walk. It’s not far away from my place.” Bai Xi Xi said. She took out her phone, wanting to pay for the fare. However, Fu Chen moved faster than her.

.....

After receiving the fare, the cab driver drove away.

Bai Xi Xi turned to Fu Chen and spoke, “How much is the cab fare? Let me transfer the money to you.” She scrolled her phone to look for the boy’s contact information on her phone.

“It’s alright. I’ll pay for it.” Fu Chen spoke quickly.

Bai Xi Xi was about to argue when she saw the serious look on Fu Chen’s face. After a brief hesitation, Bai Xi Xi finally put her phone down. “Alright. Then, thank you.”

Fu Chen smiled. He glanced at his residential area and spoke, “That... Class Monitor, Doctor Bai is really your elder brother? Like blood-related?”

Bai Xi Xi stared at the boy in front of her before she suddenly burst into laughter. She could understand why Fu Chen was curious. After all, this was not the first time she heard this question.

“Un.” Bai Xi Xi nodded. “He’s my elder brother. We are twenty years apart.”

Fu Chen stared at his class monitor in surprise.

He thought that his age gap with his little brother was wide enough. Fu Chen did not expect that Bai Xi Xi’s age gap with her brother was wider.

“My mother was pregnant with me when my brother turned twenty years old,” Bai Xi Xi said. “In the past, people would mistake us as father and daughter.” Her lips turned into a smile as the memory came to her mind.

Fu Chen could imagine this scene in his head. “So, that was why your brother looked a little older.”

“Uh-huh.” Bai Xi Xi nodded.

Fu Chen stared at the girl beside him and was in a trance upon seeing her smile. He pursed his lips and spoke, “Class Monitor, let me walk you home.”

“No. It’s alright. You don’t have to.”

“Otherwise, I would not be at ease to let you walk alone,” Fu Chen said. “There are not a lot of people around at this time.”

“Then, what about your siblings?” Bai Xi Xi asked. “Would it be alright to leave them for a long time?”

“It’s alright. Recently, my mother found a live-in auntie to help her look after the kids,” Fu Chen spoke. “It should be fine to leave them for a while.”

Bai Xi Xi hesitated. She was about to reject his offer when she saw the determined look on his face. Although she only knew Fu Chen briefly, Bai Xi Xi felt that he was not a bad person.

After pondering for a while, she then agreed. “Alright.”

She turned around and started to walk. Fu Chen walked beside her with his hands both in his pockets.

The two of them began to walk silently.

Bai Xi Xi glanced at the tall man beside her and spoke, “How is your aunt? Is she recovering well?”

Fu Chen was quiet for a brief second. He pondered about her aunt’s situation and lowered his gaze. “Mmm... the doctor said that her wound was healing slowly.”

However, it was not known when will her aunt open her eyes again.

After the operation that other day, her aunt’s condition began to improve. It was just that... she did not wake up and continued to stay in a coma.

Even the doctors were helpless. It seemed that it was his aunt who did not want to wake up just yet.

“What happened to her?” Bai Xi Xi asked cautiously. She had heard from her brother that Fu Chen’s aunt was involved in an accident. However, she did not know just how bad it was.

“It was a car crash.” Fu Chen said. “The situation was quite bad. My aunt... she lost quite a lot of blood. Later, she has been in a coma. We did not know when she will wake up.”

He had seen the photos on his mother’s phone and thought that it was quite gruesome.

It was a miracle that his aunt was still alive.

“I’m sorry.”

Fu Chen looked up again and smiled. But a few seconds later, the smile on his face disappeared. He recalled his younger cousins and thought that they were quite pitiful. Therefore, he would not blame them even if they threw a bit of a tantrum.

It has been more than a month since the last time they had seen their mother.

The atmosphere between them turned quiet again.

Bai Xi Xi did not know what she should say after listening to Fu Chen’s story. She was worried that asking too much would make him feel uncomfortable.

Without realizing it, they both walked closer to her home.

Fu Chen looked around the residential area and was stunned upon seeing the big houses around them. He had always known that there were a few large mansions around this area. But this was the first time that he came to this area.

He glanced at Bai Xi Xi again, thinking that she came from a wealthy family.
