Chapter 150: Flying Spider

A Magical Teleportation Spell Formation, as its name suggested, was a formation that could instantly transport the things inside the formation to another location whenever the magical spell was activated. It had many tactical advantages.
On the Tailun Continent, only space element Magical Tutors were able to set up a beginner level Magical Teleportation Spell Formation, and that formation could only transport a few people at a time. It was rumored that even a sage level Space Spellcaster could only transport a few hundred people at once. Furthermore, the Spellcasters had to exhaust an enormous amount of energy every time they activated the formation, and thus, Magical Teleportation Spell Formations were rarely seen.
While the Spellcasters spent their days meditating and training, the Gnomes had different habits. They used their ingenuity and drew various low level magical spells that could be instantly cast using the Blood Essences of Magical Beasts. Amongst those low level spells were the obscure space element spells.
According to the records, a hundred years previous, a Gnome had gotten his hands on the Blood Essence of a space element Magical Beast and successfully drew a beginner level Magical Teleportation Spell Formation.
Even though the specific art had been lost over the generations, the Gnome Elder believed that he could lead his tribesmen and create two Magical Teleportation Spell Formation as long as he had enough Blood Essences from space element Magical Beasts.
The three agreed on their plan, and split up to take action immediately.
The Gnome Elder was responsible for searching the historical records to find clues on how to draw the Magical Teleportation Spell Formation; Goode was responsible for directing the warriors and sealing the latter half of the Taildon Valley, as well as send a team of Ogres to stand guard there; Yang Ling was responsible for hunting space element Magical Beasts deep within the Terras Forest.
“Sir, Magical Beasts roam deeply within the Terras Forest, you have to be careful. Why don’t I send a few Gnome warriors with you?” Even though he knew that Yang Ling could summon a Magical Beast army at any time to do battle for him, the Gnome Elder was still a little worried.
Send a few Gnome warriors to come along with me?
Thinking about the slender and frail bodies of the Gnomes, Yang Ling shook his head. With his Unicorn’s assistance, he would be able to retreat in time if he encountered any danger. If he brought Gnome warriors, who could not withstand a single hit, they would not only not be of any use, they might even bring him more trouble.
“Never mind my suggestion,” the Gnome Elder said. “Perhaps your tribesmen could send you in with a few more Magical Spell Formations!” Yang Ling rejected this idea, too.
The Gnome Elder understood that his tribesmen wouldn’t be much help to Yang Ling on this occasion. He bowed deeply and left. The Gnome Elder believed that in time, Yang Ling would understand how useful gnomes could be.
What the Gnomes were proud of the most was not their skill in drawing Magical Spell Formations, but their nimble hands and vast knowledge!
According to the historical records, their ancestors had a massive population and an expansive territory in the ancient times, and they had created a glorious civilization built on machinery and refineries. Millennia later, even though many techniques had been lost to the ages, the Gnome Elder still believed that if the conditions were sufficient, after not having to worry about finding food to fill their stomachs, they could create something unique.
“Sir, can the Ogres really be trusted?” Goode creased his brows. The value of the vein of five colored crystals was great, and they could not afford to let their guard down.
“I will leave the Twin-headed Ogre Braska behind and instruct him to follow your orders!” Yang Ling continued, “Tell those that have not pledged fealty to us that we are sealing the latter half of the Taildon Valley to build an army barracks, and those that are faithful to us that we are protecting the divine temple. All are forbidden to enter!”
Yang Ling still felt that the Ogres were the most reliable group. The Beastmen who had newly pledged their allegiance could not be tasked with this heavy responsibility. Certainly the human warriors they had just recruited were less trustworthy!
As his soul was under Yang Ling’s control, the Twin-headed Ogre was like a tamed Magical Beast, and would definitely not betray him. The other Ogres would follow his orders and would not reveal the information. Furthermore, the Ogres were bloodthirsty and violent, and had massive strength. He believed that no one would dare attack the area outright with them guarding the place.
“Alright, then I’ll make the arrangements immediately. Sir, please be careful on your journey through the Terras Forest!” After a respectful bow, Goode also left. Sealing the Taildon Valley would need to be completed as soon as possible, as a long delay was likely to result in many hitches.
After all the preparations were complete, Yang Ling also left and headed toward the vast Terras Forest. He had not planned to allow the slower Heavenly Fox Yuna to accompany him on the journey, but under her persistence, he relented and allowed her to come along.
After all, even though Yuna was not adept at close combat, she was a powerful Spellcaster. She could cast various spells and she could set up Magical Illusory Spell Formations. She might prove useful.
To save time on the journey, Yang Ling and Yuna shared the Unicorn as they headed into the Terras Forest. Yuna’s physical abilities were nothing to be proud of, who knows how long it would take to reach deep into the Terras Forest if he had to journey with her on foot.
Hugging Yuna’s slender body, smelling her faint fragrance, Yang Ling soon realized she was blushing, as if she was nervous. As they had to rush on the journey, and having no other choice but to share a ride, Yang Ling could only try to divert her attention. He decided to try making some conversation.
“Yuna, are you the last Heavenly Foxes on the entire Tailun Continent?”
“En, I think so, I am not too sure about the specifics!” Straightening her tousled hair, Yuna turned back and looked shyly at Yang Ling. “But we have a mysterious connection between us Heavenly Foxes, and we can clearly sense if there are any of our clansmen within a thousand miles of us!”
Gradually, Yuna calmed as she spoke. She told of the Beastmen’s histories and the miracles of the God of War, from the heroes in the history of the Heavenly Foxes to the hypocritical, despicable human Church...
“If not for the Church, perhaps we Beastmen could have had an independent empire and vast territory; If not for having no choice but to move the entire clan to a new continent abroad, perhaps my siblings would still be living in the faraway glacier, carefree!”
Yuna couldn’t help but weep silently, her shoulders shaking gently as she leaned against Yang Ling. Her clansmen had suffered so much.
“I do not have the ability to change things as I am now, but I can guarantee that you Beastmen and humans would be given equal rights and status in my territory.” Hugging the sad Yuna, Yang Ling continued. “In the future, you can call me Brother Yang just like Alice does. You don’t have to call me Master every time you see me!”
“En, Brother Yang...”
Yuna tried on the new name, leaning into Yang Ling’s embrace. Hearing his powerful heartbeats, for some reason, did not decrease her blushing. In fact, she became even redder.
While they were passing near the Spider Valley, looking at the strange fire red trees, Yang Ling remembered the corpse of the Spider Monster sitting in his Space Ring. The Blood Essence of space element Magical Beasts were very important, but he did not know where to look for them for the time being. He would rather first use the fresh blood in the Spider Monster’s corpse to create a few Magical Beast Blood Orbs, in case of emergencies.
Stopping in a clearing, he summoned his Magical Beast army to protect them and then sat down cross legged. He retrieved the Spider Monster’s body from the space ring, preparing to create the Magical Beast Blood Orbs. As he had unintentionally tamed the Heavenly Fox Yuna with his blood, she would learn some of his secrets as time passed anyway, so he did not feel that he needed to hide what he was doing.
It was amazing how much blood the Spider Monster’s massive body had lost in the battle, and even more amazing to Yang Ling how much was left. In just an hour’s time, Yang Ling was able to create two hundred red Blood Orbs.
After confirming that there were no more treasures inside the Spider Monster, Yang Ling allowed his feisty spider army to swarm the corpse and clean the flesh from it. He then took out the Essence Crystal that he had retrieved from the Spider Monster and inspected the energy that it harbored.
As a level nine Magical Beast, the Spider Monster’s abilities were exceptional. If not for the white fog exhausting so much of its abilities, not one of them would have been successful in defeating the monster. Yang Ling could sense a massive ripple of Magical Energy inside the Essence Crystal, much more than what he had felt within the Nine-headed Snake Monster’s Essence Crystal.
“Brother Yang, is this the Spider Monster’s Essence Crystal?” Yuna asked, clenching her teeth. After feeling the massive ripple of Magical Energy, she could not help but think about the terrifying Spider Monster.
“That’s right, this is its Essence Crystal!” Seeing Yuna’s distress turning to rage, Yang Ling did not have to think too much to know what was going on. He said, “No matter how powerful it was when it was alive, it still fell by my hand, dying without a proper burial!”
Picking up the fire red Essence Crystal, Yuna squeezed it fiercely, wanting more than anything in that moment to place the crystal under her foot and crush it. Her eyes reddened as she thought about the humiliation her clansmen suffered over the thousands of years.
Just as Yuna was about to return the Essence Crystal to Yang Ling, an accident happened!
The Tarantula King, who had been circling the Essence Crystal, jumped up suddenly and swallowed the Essence Crystal whole. It looked apologetically at Yang Ling, and sprawled, motionless.
“Oh Yiblis, this beast’s movements sure are quick!”
To a Spellcaster, the Spider Monster’s Essence Crystal would be a treasure worth a hefty sum, but to Yang Ling, he would probably only use it as a Spell Point in a Wizard Formation. He had already intended to let the Tarantula King consume the Essence Crystal, hoping that it would further evolve. Seeing the Tarantula King looking pitifully at himself, Yang Ling did not say anything further. He patted the Spider King’s head affectionately.
The Tarantula King tried its best to absorb the massive energy. Slowly, its body expanded, as a pale red glow surrounded its body. Its scales became more tightly knit, and increasingly thicker. But what was even weirder was that the two bony thorns on the sides of its body gradually transformed into a set of wings... a set of red wings three meters long!
