I'm the Owner of the Pokémon Day Care In the World of Pokémon

Chapter 58: Pokémon Contest (Part 2)

Chapter 58: Pokémon Contest (Part 2)

As Robert made his appearance, the first round of the competition was nearing its end, and the audience seemed a bit aesthetically fatigued.

"Next up is contestant Robert. When it comes to Robert, those who love Pokémon Contest must be familiar with him. Despite his young age, Robert has already attended two Grand Festival event of Pokémon Contest.

Don't be fooled by Robert young age; he achieved an outstanding third place in his first major event and even more impressively, secured second place in the last Grand Festival. He can be said to be the rising star closest to the top-tier Coordinator Trainer."

The host, Vivian, enthusiastically introduced Robert remarkable achievements.

Yuga also didn't anticipate that Robert was already a well-known Coordinator Trainer at this point.

"Big Brother Yuga, Robert is about to perform. We must cheer for him!"

Hearing the host mention Robert name, Luna grabbed Yuga arm and cheered excitedly. Yuga felt a bit overwhelmed and could only nod in agreement.

Introduced by the host, Robert walked onto the stage with a smile.

It had to be said that having a handsome face was quite advantageous. With the lighting accentuating his features, Robert seemed to be surrounded by an angelic halo, causing squeals from young girls, middle-aged women, and grandmothers in the audience.

Robert sent out his Pokémon, Baltoy.

The entrance of Baltoy wasn't particularly grand; it simply hovered silently in the center of the stage.

"Baltoy, Rock Lock!"

After Robert command, a gigantic lotus flower composed of rocks bloomed beneath Baltoy, suspended in the air.

Following this, Baltoy slowly descended from mid-air onto the central platform of the lotus flower.

"Baltoy, Psybeam."

After Baltoy landed on the giant rock lotus, Robert issued another command.

At this point, Baltoy eyes emitted a white light, which gradually spread over the rock lotus beneath it. In no time, the entire lotus was enveloped in white light.

With the Psybeam, the rock lotus, now entirely covered in white light, appeared as a genuinely exquisite and enchanting flower.

Just as the audience and judges were entranced by the breathtaking sight, Robert issued yet another command.

"Baltoy, Confusion!"

Upon hearing Robert voice, Baltoy, standing on the rock lotus, abruptly took flight. A purple light shot towards the lotus, which was still radiating white light, causing it to disintegrate into powder in an instant.

Yuga was taken aback by Robert display of power; he thought, "Wow, that was so aggressive, it doesn't match your usual style."

Yuga recalled that in the original story, Robert demeanor was gentle and elegant, which was also reflected in his Pokémon Contest performances.

But now, this move seemed rather forceful.

Cleverly using the white light that enveloped the rock lotus to obscure the dust caused by the disintegration, Robert ensured that once the white light dissipated, the dust settled as well. Otherwise, the entire stage would have been filled with a haze of dirt.

It must be said that Robert maneuver was quite impressive.

Without a doubt, Robert secured the highest score so far: 9.9, 9.9, 10, totaling 29.8 points, truly befitting his title as a prodigy.

"Big Brother Robert, you're amazing!"

Luna gazed at Robert walking backstage with admiration all over her face, repeating her praises non-stop. Yuga was rendered speechless by her expression.

In his heart, Yuga silently resolved to never team up with Luna when Robert was around.

Soon after Robert performance, the first round of the competition concluded, and none of the subsequent participants managed to surpass Robert score. His advancement to the second round was practically certain.

The results of the second round of judging were swiftly announced, and the photos of the eight contestants who advanced appeared on the large screen above the stage.

Robert smoothly advanced, and the Trainer with Sentret and Touya also made it to the second round.

Following that, the eight contestants were randomly paired with their opponents, and quite coincidentally, the first match of the second round was between Robert and Touya.

Yuga was delighted; he had long taken a dislike to Touya, and it was wonderful that Robert could give him a good lesson.

Yuga couldn't imagine Robert losing to someone like Touya.

Once the match began, the five-minute countdown appeared on the large screen.

"Baltoy, seize the initiative, Rock Lock!"

Robert response was incredibly swift, seizing the opportunity right at the start of the match and commanding Baltoy into action.

The cooperation between Baltoy and Robert was seamless. The instant Robert command was given, the skill was executed.

Massive rocks formed an enclosure, wrapping around the flying Woobat, which wasn't flying very high. Then, the boulders slammed shut, trapping the Woobat within.

The moment Woobat was trapped, Touya Performance score rapidly plummeted.

Of course, Touya wouldn't just sit idly; he immediately shouted at the trapped Woobat, "Woobat, Heart Stamp!"

A loud explosion echoed as a hole was blasted through the rock enclosure surrounding Woobat. Woobat hastily flew out.

"Baltoy, Hidden Power."

Just as Woobat emerged from the rock, a fiery red beam shot onto it, resembling a firework. This triggered a powerful explosion.

The charred Woobat fell to the ground, causing Touya Performance score to plummet once again.

Seeing this, Touya expression turned dark.

"Woobat, get up and use Charm."

Touya exclaimed in frustration.

Woobat, still slightly disoriented, fluttered back into the air. Its body swayed, and pink hearts rushed towards Baltoy, which couldn't evade.

However, these pink hearts had no effect when they collided with Baltoy.

Clearly, Baltoy was a genderless creature, rendering the Charm move ineffective. Whether Touya was enraged or simply lacked basic knowledge, the result was his Performance score hit rock bottom.

Defeated and fuming, Touya angrily recalled his Woobat and swiftly left the stage.

The rest of the matches proceeded smoothly, some being one-sided victories while others were evenly matched – all kinds of situations unfolded.

Finally, the two contestants who advanced to the finals were Robert and the Trainer with Sentret.

This Sentret Trainer was quite different from Touya; he was very polite.

Standing across from Robert, he bowed politely, saying, "I've heard of your reputation for a long time. I look forward to learning from you today."

Robert quickly returned the gesture, "The honor is mine. I look forward to learning from you as well."

Sentret Trainer name was Sora. His Sentret level was incredibly high, and his strength was also formidable. He had been dominating the matches up to this point. His aggressive battling style starkly contrasted with his gentle and courteous personality.

"Both contestants are ready. So, our final round is about to begin. Today, the Verdanturf Ribbon Medal will belong to whom? Let's wait and see."

Vivian passionate speech ignited the enthusiasm of the audience, and waves of cheers erupted.

"Sentret, Quick Attack, get close to Baltoy and use Sucker Punch."

Sora seemed to have been a Coordinator Trainer for a long time. Not only was his Sentret level very high, but his battle experience was also extensive. He exhibited remarkable synergy with his Sentret.

However, what puzzled Yuga was that, given his Sentret high level, it should have evolved by now. So, why hadn't it evolved yet?

Though evolution wasn't easy for Pokémon, it was relatively more straightforward for Pokémon like Rattata, Tediursa, Sentret, Bidoof, Patrat, Bunnelby, and Yungoos.

While evolving these creatures might not be easy in the wild, in the hands of a Trainer, with the right effort, they generally evolved quite smoothly.

Nevertheless, Yuga didn't dwell on this mystery much; whether it evolved or not didn't really concern him.

Sentret, which had used Quick Attack, moved like a bolt of lightning, rapidly closing in on Robert Baltoy.

From the first round performance, it was clear that Sora was adept at using Quick Attack; its speed was impressive.

"Baltoy, Rock Lock!"

Robert aimed to prevent Sentret from approaching Baltoy and ordered it to use Rock Lock to intercept Sentret midway.

However, Sentret speed was too swift, its movements incredibly agile. Its small form dashed right over the rocks.

The move was ineffective, and Robert Performance score noticeably dropped.

"Baltoy, Shoot it with Hidden Power!"

As the Rock Lock failed to halt Sentret, which was about to reach Baltoy, Robert swiftly issued another command.

Sentret next move was Sucker Punch, and as a Psychic-type Pokémon, if Baltoy were hit by Sentret Sucker Punch, Robert would almost certainly lose the match. Hence, Robert couldn't allow it to succeed.

Baltoy folded its hands in front of its chest, and a red beam of Hidden Power, accompanied by brilliant light, shot towards the sprinting Sentret. Wherever Sentret went, the Hidden Power struck, disrupting its path and foiling its attempt to approach Baltoy.

Sentret suffered a setback, and Sora Performance score naturally dropped.

However, continuously using Hidden Power would clearly be unsustainable for Baltoy, so Robert wanted to conclude the match swiftly.

"Baltoy, Confusion, capture Sentret."

The panting Sentret was ensnared by Baltoy Confusion power. Despite its struggles, it couldn't break free.

Subsequently, with a "thud," Baltoy tossed Sentret onto the stage.

"Rock Lock!"

As Sentret hit the ground, Baltoy immediately formed the Rock Lock. Sentret figure was promptly engulfed by the enormous rocks.

After suffering repeated attacks, Sora Performance score plummeted almost to the bottom. Just as he was about to mount a counterattack, a "beep" signaled the end of the match.

The five-minute match duration had elapsed.

Comparing their scores, it was evident that Robert had won the match.
