I Spread my Genes to Level Up in the Apocalypse

Chapter 227 Street Rat

Swish! Swish!

The wind howled relentlessly, carrying a veil of dust that danced and swirled across the barren expanse of a desert-like landscape. The air was thick with grit, creating an almost ethereal haze that blurred the horizon.

But even at the heart of this desolate scene stood a striking anomaly—a massive, dome-like transparent structure.

Inside, a sprawling metropolis thrived, its towering skyscrapers piercing the sky.

Air vehicles zipped through dedicated lanes in an orderly flow, while streets below bustled with human activity.

The city glittered with a kaleidoscope of vibrant lights, casting a glow. Robots of various designs moved purposefully, their every action guided by human commands.

But in stark contrast to this dazzling spectacle, a shadowed corner beneath the grandeur of the city told a different story.

Hidden in the deepest, darkest alleyway, shrouded by the towering buildings, was a lone figure. A man leaned against a grimy wall, his breaths shallow and labored.

His clothes were torn and weathered, barely clinging to his frame, and the rhythmic sound of his snoring echoed faintly in the oppressive silence.

Suddenly, a sharp squeak shattered the stillness. A rat scurried from the shadows, its beady eyes gleaming with hunger. It darted toward the man, sinking its teeth into the tattered fabric of his clothes.

With a swift tug, the creature tore a scrap free before vanishing into the darkness, leaving the man to slump further, his ragged form barely stirring.

"This... This…"

The man woke up in a daze, looking at his torn sleeve with a bitter expression. "How did I even end up like this?"

Naturally, the man here was William, whose condition was at its absolute worst, resembling nothing more than a street rat hiding away in the shadows.

"When did it go wrong?"

[You let your arrogance take over without the ability to back it up, so it was natural for you to end up in this state. I already warned you.]

"How was I supposed to know that such a weakling had a big background behind him and was even able to have ray guns?" William ground his teeth, sheer hatred reflecting in his eyes.

"I hate myself, I hate that bastard, and I hate everyone in the world."

"Rawr!" he roared, his bloodshot eyes consumed with rage and unbridled fury, as if he were about to lash out at any moment.

"Huff! Huff!"

However, with his roar, William began coughing violently.

"I will get my revenge on you all soon."

At this time, the sound of footsteps slowly echoed in the alleyway. From the shadows emerged a golden-haired woman walking silently, her stern expression unwavering.

"William, are you here?" she called out casually, her tone filled with nonchalance.

Hearing the voice, William's eyes immediately lit up, and he hurriedly stood up, excitement evident on his face.

"Elaine, is that you? I knew you wouldn't abandon me!"

The woman had red skin and wore simple yet elegant clothes that accentuated her figure, giving her a pure but strikingly beautiful appearance.

Hearing William's words, Elaine felt an urge to roll her eyes. They had only met two days ago, and this bastard was already inviting trouble for himself.

"Oh well, not that I care."

Elaine casually shrugged it off, then turned to leave the place, saying over her shoulder, "Follow me."

"Alright," William replied promptly, his posture stiff as blood continued to gush from his body almost relentlessly.

As he followed her, they soon arrived at a row of large, luxurious cars. Surrounding them were several red, bulky-skinned men, all standing guard with an imposing presence.

"Get in."

"Woah, she's rich," William muttered, blowing out a breath of hot air before happily climbing into the vehicle.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Whoosh!

With the sound of air being torn apart, the car ascended into the air. All other air vehicles paused, yielding to this single luxurious car and allowing it unobstructed passage.

"I never asked you, Elaine, but what's your family like?" William asked softly, tentatively watching her expression.

"It's very complicated," Elaine replied, her gaze fixed out the window, showing little interest in the conversation.

"I wonder how high the ladder goes for her," William thought, his curiosity about her background growing by the second.

The more mysterious something is, the more you're drawn to it, after all.

After a long ride, they landed in front of a massive skyscraper. Elaine stepped out of the car with an elegant air and entered the building:

"You can recover here, and after some time, just leave," Elaine said casually. She turned on her heel and tiptoed her way inside, leaving William behind as he stood there, looking around the place with curious eyes.

A bulky man remained by William's side, not following Elaine but staying behind to oversee him.

"Follow, as per Miss's instructions," the man said coldly.

"Yes," William replied. He wasn't easily intimidated, but the presence of this man felt strange and unnerving. Given his current condition, he compiled without resistance.

Soon, he was led to a recovery room and directed to enter a capsule filled with green liquid. The moment he stepped inside, his injuries began to heal almost instantaneously. Without another word, the bulky man turned and left the room, leaving William to recover in silence.

In just a few moments, William stepped out of the capsule, completely recovered.

"Where did that man go?" He glanced around the room, a curious look on his face before a sly thought crept into his mind.

"Maybe I can take advantage of this and find some treasure."

With that devious idea, William immediately began exploring the area.

After exiting the recovery room, he found himself in a vast, grand hallway adorned with a rich red carpet stretching across the floor.

"They're really, *really* rich," he muttered to himself, impressed by the opulence.

Before he could fully take in his surroundings, the cold voice returned, though this time, it was faint and distorted, almost fading into the background.

[Be careful, I sense… iebekbsk… ibwnwk.]

The voice abruptly cut off.

"What are you saying?" William asked, his voice tinged with frustration, but no reply came.

"Hello? What the hell are you saying?"

He tried again and again, yet the voice in his head remained silent.

Helpless, he let out a sigh and could only move forward.

What felt like an eternity passed before he finally reached a room at the end of the hallway.

Gulp!

William stared at the door, fear gradually creeping across his face.

"I don't have another choice anyway."

Muttering to himself, he slowly reached for the door. Finding it unlocked, he hesitated for a moment before carefully peeking through the narrow gap as the door creaked against the wall.

Immediately, William's body began to cramp with horror, and his eyes widened in shock.

In front of him stood a bulky, long white haired man, sitting on a grand throne. Surrounding him were countless red-skinned women, all serving him diligently, attempting to please him as much as they could.

"Ray…" William's voice shook, and a faint sound of water hitting the ground could be heard, creating a small puddle on the floor. The disgusting stench that followed made his stomach churn.

"How the fuck is Ray here!?"
