I Hate Systems

Chapter 177: Luck and Coincidence

Chapter 177: Luck and Coincidence

‘As I thought, they have taken action at the very first incident.’ The Coincidental Luck System thought, using the senses of Rhizen to look around. It then gazed at the three people beside, unable to get any Mental Energy streams from them, ‘This is by far the easiest way to determine if someone is a System Slayer or a System Host.’

Considering the method Compass Carburettor to shield his Mental Energy form, it was wise to think that others too would do it. After all, this was the only way to prevent their thoughts from being known to their foes.

A System Slayer was only capable of determining the emotion behind the Mental Energy stream. But, a System was able to read it entirely. It would understand all the thoughts within the Mental Energy stream.

‘After all, a System cannot absorb every type of Mental Energy casually. That’ll only stunt their growth.’ It thought, frowning as it looked at the back of Compass Carburettor, ‘Since the two Hatchling Systems are dispatched by my foes, it seems they have taken the necessary arrangements already.’

The first arrangement was their selves being guarded. This way, they’ll never generate a Mental Energy stream. This would prevent the Coincidental Luck System from sensing the thoughts of the enemy System Hosts.

And, the second arrangement was the countless Mental Energy streams that landed on Rhizen. They were troubling it all along.

Mental Energy was a resultant of a person’s thought. It could be any sentient being capable of conscious thought. And, this conscious thought wasn’t of their selves, but rather their brain.

And, based on the thought, the generated Mental Energy stream varied. To a System Slayer like Compass Carburettor, the type of thought didn’t matter. All were beneficial. After all, their essence was a living creature that had incorporated a part of the System into their own.

And, the growth of their Personal Fragment didn’t depend on the type of Mental Energy absorbed. A System Slayer can individually level up. And when they needed, they can level up any Core Skills they obtained.

But, it was different for a System. A System’s Growth was intricately tied to its own Core Skill. And, that meant some complications would arise in its growth based on the parameters at play.

For the Coincidental Luck System, all the thoughts that were beneficial to it should be related to thoughts of luck and coincidence.

So, if someone thought Rhizen won a certain prize at a particular contest out of luck, then the generated Mental Energy was beneficial to the Coincidental Luck System’s growth.

This growth was the most important for a System, a reason a lot of Systems stagnated at a certain level without improving. Sometimes, their level would even regress.

Mental Energy on par with their Core Skill was beneficial. It was beneficial in the sense that this allowed them to improve systematically upon their fundamental abilities. Their abilities grew in strength accordingly, also allowing their power to have a comprehensive growth.

But, suppose the Coincidental Luck System absorbed Mental Energy unrelated to coincidence or luck, it would still level up somewhat. But over time, it’s Core Skill would stop developing, causing it to stagnate at Level 94.

And, if the amount of this unnecessary Mental Energy continues to increase among is reserves, all it would do is make it harder for the Coincidental Luck System to ever level up.

It was the same as absorbing the Core Skills of Systems not part of its genre. Such actions would stump its growth.

That was what its enemies had been trying all along. And, the best way to prevent it was to use the unrelated Mental Energy to buy something from the Astral World.

But, this also meant that it was constantly wasting Mental Energy.

‘It’s pretty troublesome. After all, if I directly announce my presence to Rhizen, it would make him realise that I was the reason he was getting lucky. It would no longer be a coincidence. And that would prevent me from getting any useful Mental Energy every again from him in this round.’ It thought in worry.

Not every System picked a braindead individual as their host. Every System had their respective preference. For example, the Slave Harem System had picked Regriel, someone who was trash, but was also a lustful man.

Thanks to his natural undiminishable lust, he was the perfect Host for it, allowing it to obtain the maximum Mental Energy accordingly to its nature.

Similarly, Rhizen was naturally smart, allowing him to proactively perform things so that he would obtain results in his favour. And, all the Coincidental Luck System had to do here was to use some of its powers to coincidentally make him lucky.

It would make him understand that he is indeed a lucky individual thanks to the numerous times he survived and emerged victoriously thanks to luck. And thanks to his thought process, all the Mental Energy received by Rhizen would be converted into Mental Energy suitable for the Coincidental Luck System’s growth.

That was the reason the Systems selected their Hosts accordingly. After all, the Hosts acted as a filter to turn unwanted Mental Energy into Mental Energy beneficial for their growth.

‘But, the moment I take action, give Rhizen any Skill or reveal my existence, it would be my loss in this cycle.’ The Coincidental Luck System thought, sighing, ‘And, my enemies know very well. Hence, they prepared accordingly, sending two Hatchling Systems that can counter the current him the most.’

‘If I had said too much to Compass Carburettor, that would prevent the situation from going against my nature. If he talks with Rhizen while knowing about everything, that would no longer be a coincidence. It too would lead to my downfall.’ It was worried.

After all, the enemies that had been sending all such Hatchling Systems in this world to destroy it were all Systems in the same genre as it. Meaning, they all possessed similar powers as itself.

This was the reason the Coincidental Luck System, one that manipulated Luck suffered defeat many times in this contest. ‘I hope Compass Carburettor can realise the mechanics of our enemies and deal with them effectively. The true enemies aren’t these Hatchling System Hosts, but…’

‘The Luck that is working against myself!’
