Evolution: A Warlock's Rise To Power

Chapter 201: Develpoment

Chapter 201: Develpoment

Silent Night sat in a conference room while those in charge of managing the affairs of Destol reported to her.

"Currently, five hundred thousand people from Baramore have already teleported here from Shadowsweep. That number is suspected to double within a few days. We have already made arrangements to procure more food from Vertshadow. Our store houses are filled and ready for emergencies. The increase in food available should keep the cost of food from rising."

Silent nodded to the shadow elf who had just given her report before turning to the next official.

"After a thorough inspection, we have available housing for three hundred thousand people, but we don't have enough for those who just came from Baramore. With even more people coming, their will be an even greater strain to the housing market. I think we should immediately begin construction projects. If we put up the money and build the houses we should be able to make a profit once we sell them to the people who have recently moved here."

Silent shook her head. "We will not be building any long term houses. I have talked to Lucan about this matter and this is his command. The goal is to increase the property prices. Those who have come here from Baramore are the rich and well connected. They have money to spend. What we need to do is increase the presence of our guards in the residential districts. No one will be forced to sell their homes if they don't want to."

Another official reported once Silent turned and nodded to him. "We have doubled the presence of guards in the residential district. They have been order to protect the investments of the true locals. I have already informed all my officers that if they bribes from the Baramore people to force others to give up their homes it will be their last day with us. Taking Miss Night's suggestion, I have informed them that they will not only lose their jobs, but also be sent to work camps under Shadowsweep to dig stone for a minimum of five years. On top of that, they will forfeit their own property."

"Good. We just need to get through this transition period. As you all know, recently a large company has based themselves in our city. Starlight Entertainment. Lucan wants to capitalize on this opportunity to turn Destol into a high-class tourist destination with a focus on entertainment. With the rising property prices and we have to make sure we don't alienate our own people. We want property to become more valuable, but we need the cost of living to stay at a reasonable price. Our future developments should focus on fine dining, entertainment, and the arts."

"Miss Night, If Lord Quilldrake doesn't want us to build any new long term housing, could that mean he wants us to build short term housing?"

"Yes, that is correct. Following his idea that this will become a tourist destination, we are planning to start a few short term housing operations. Once our meeting here is concluded, I will be going to meet with they few large construction teams in the area. It is Lucan's idea to let them bid for the projects. I will collect the information and tomorrow we will sit down, look over the proposals, and decided who will get the work."

"Miss Night, what sort of short term housing projects does Lord Quilldrake want to start?" Another official asked.

"Hotels, or as you would know them, large scale inns. He wants each establishment to be capable of renting out over one hundred rooms. We will start by constructing four of these hotels in one area. They will later be developed into a resort where we will also have several other amenities. Such as theaters, bars, dinning, and entertainment all included on the property. But the focus now is the hotels."

"I understand Miss Night, but even if we build four with over a hundred rooms in each, that won't solve the issue resulting from a lack of homes."

"It will be alright. The wealthy in the city are aware of the actions we are are taking. When they see we are serious about building hotels and turning this city into a destination, do you think they will miss out on their chance to earn money? I don't think so. They will make a move and start building hotels as well. Yesterday, I met with a few in the city who bought large amounts of land. Once they heard that over one million people would be moving into our city within a week, they began to move. I didn't directly tell them our plans, but I gave them a few hints. These people who have earned millions of pieces of gold are not stupid. They are waiting for their chance to act. We just need to lead them in the right direction."

"Miss Night, I know earlier you said that today we will restrict and look into every property sale, but will there be an opportunity for us?" The official asked nervously.

Silent thought it over for a moment. "Fine, you can make purchase today, but I don't want to here about any of you buying property after sunset today. And if I find out that you coerced or force any of the locals into giving up their property, you will wish for the same treatment as the guards who disobeyed orders. Your lives will be a hundred times worse. Yes there is money to be made, but I don't want it to be made at the cost of our own people. Do you all understand?" She asked.

"""Yes.""" They replied in unison.

"Good. Let me remind you one last time. I know you all are eager to buy property, but don't let this opportunity distract you from the work you must complete today. With so many people coming from Baramore, many of them used to be officials just like yourself. If you aren't willing to do the work, I have no problem with replacing you with someone who wants to do the job. Unless you have something you need to speak to mee about, get out of here. You re dismissed."

The officials all gave her a short bow after standing from their seats. With dollars signs in their eyes they all scurried out of the room as fast as they could.

Several hours later, Silent returned from the meeting with the construction companies in Destol. They were now aware of the situation and would be submitting their bids by this evening.

*Knock* *Knock*

There was a knock at the door to her office.

"Come in." Silent said while looking up from her desk.

The door opened and Bo Hekin stepped inside.

"Ah, Mr. Hekin. I didn't expect you to come and find me. Is there something I can help you with?" Silent asked.

"Who is Mr. Hekin. You are my daughter-in-law, just call me uncle."

"Uncle." Silent said with a slightly red face.

"Ha, ha, great, great. I wanted to first welcome you to the family. If that stink punk bullies you at all let me know and your uncle will deal with it."

"He, he, thank you for looking out for me. But you don't need to give Lucan a hard time on my behalf."

"No worries, no worries, besides I wouldn't do anything to him. I will tattle to you Aunty and she will deal with him."

Silent chuckled and laughed to herself. "Then there is no reason for me to worry if Aunty is looking out for me."

"Yes, yes." Uncle Bo said.

"Is there something else I can do for you?"

"Well, actually, I heard about the changes that will becoming to Destol and I wanted to get involved myself. I think the hotels and resorts in this area will really take off. I want to get in on the ground floor."

"Does Terracorp want to get into the hotel business."

"Perhaps, I don't know. I want to invest with the money I ahave personally saved up. I know my nephew and I don't believe he would invest in a business that is going to lose money. How about it, are you willing to let uncle take a gamble with you?"

"What sort of investment are you willing to make?" She asked.

"I have use some of my contacts to squire a bit of gold. I can spend 1.2 million gold pieces."

"Normally, I would say no. But you are family after all. Here are the designs for the resort Lucan wants to set up. If you are willing to invest all your money, I sell you 60% of the ownership to one of the hotels being built inside the resort."

"Good, good, what a good daughter-in-law. Next time you come over, you must visit Aunty and I in the main house, we will make sure to give you plenty of treats. From the way Marie has been talking lately, she is ready to throw aside Brax and make you her favorite, so come and visit us often."

"Okay, Uncle, I will come and visit you soon."

"Good, good, and I know it is early, but don't let Marie scare you off when she start talking about grandkids. If you want, I am sure she will teach you a few tricks to make things more exciting at night."

"Pah, you are just like that hooligan nephew of yours. I have others things to do. Unless you have other business to talk about, I need to get back to work."

"He, he, I won't disturb you any longer. Remember to come visit."

"I will be coming over tomorrow. I will make sure to come pay my respects to you and Aunty."

"Good, good." Uncle Bo said before quickly leaving the office.
