Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 216 - 216 Reunited (2)

216 Reunited (2)

“So, you have been adopted by someone and right now you are coming back to get your… stuff?” One of the caretakers asked as she looked at the locked necklace that Blake wore on his neck.

Technically, the only stuff that really belonged to him was the necklace as not even the clothes that he wore before belonged to him. But seeing the current clothes Blake was currently wearing, the caretakers assumed that Blake would not be needing any of his old clothes that might as well be considered to be rags compared to his current clothing.

“Yes,” Blake replied shortly without giving any more explanations or context.

“And that’s…?”

“That is my pet.” Blake quickly cut the caretakers off as they saw a monkey standing right beside Blake’s feet.

Robus stared at Blake for at least two whole seconds when he heard Blake’s answer, but he stayed silent nonetheless as he realized that Blake was in a weird situation where he wasn’t currently himself as he felt his best friend was feeling quite annoyed from the connection that the two of them shared.

If Blake felt annoyed, then he would have told him to kick some assess and eat their souls, and when he didn’t do it, that means that something complicated that he didn’t understand was happening and Robus just stayed silent.

“How do you get into the orphanage without any of us seeing you?” The other caretakers asked as she remembered clearly that she didn’t see Blake entering through the front door while she was standing near it a few minutes ago.

“Well, I kind of missed the orphanage and tried to sneak in to satisfy my thirst for a little adventurous spirit and tried to sneak inside, which I had succeeded by the way.” Blake spouted another random bullshit that was passable for a child to say.

.....

“That’s…” The caretakers wanted to refute that it was an unreasonable answer. Still, remembering that they were talking to a child, they couldn’t say much when they saw children do dumb questionable things all the time without particular reasons. They just followed their hearts and did whatever they wanted.

“But if you are really adopted by someone, you do know that they need to come to us first right?” No matter how mature Blake might seem for a fifteen-year-old, he was still a fifteen-year-old. He was still a child and the orphanage had custody of him.

“Ah, yes, about that, I forgot to tell them. I will inform them after I get back.”

With such an answer that offered no faults, the caretakers could only nod their heads as they took Blake’s explanation to the reason why he had been gone for more than a month.

He told them that he was badly wounded before someone saved him. He also said that he stayed with the person because the person nurtured him back to full health and genuinely cared about him, that’s why he did not go back to the orphanage where he felt quiet and alone most of the time.

It was a subtle jab that Blake gave to the caretakers for the negligible amount of attention that they give to him, which some of the caretakers were aware of hence why they kept their silence when Blake mentioned their negligence in caring about him.

And although the caretakers were curious about his disappearance, they didn’t do anything else, not even going to the police to file a missing person report. With the reason that they should wait a little bit longer to see if Blake did go missing.

And now hearing that someone had taken him off their hands, they were more than glad for it to happen as they would be able to have one less burden to carry while saving their conscience by knowing that the child they dumping was taken care of.

While all the caretakers digested Blake’s bullshit very well as they were happily accepting the reasoning that barely made any sense as long as he got to leave again and they knew he was safe, one person, in particular, stared at Blake silently as she knew very well when her brother was making up excuses and he wasn’t telling the truth.

He did it often to her whenever she asked him what happened when he got beaten up and came back with bruises. He might have used over-the-top excuses at her like he was fighting a caterpillar army, but she knew better than anyone the tell-tale signs when he was lying.

However, despite knowing it, she didn’t have any plans to tell the caretakers that she knew didn’t really care for Blake. She recognized their indifferent eyes whenever Blake came back with bruises instead of tending to him. So she stayed silent and just let Blake do whatever he wanted with the caretakers.

“Alright then, we’ll look forward to meeting your new parents when they come here later,” The caretakers nodded their heads before they went back to doing whatever they were doing before they heard Amy’s cry.

When all the caretakers went out with the rest of the children, Amy was left alone with Blake as the two of them stood in front of Blake’s room.

“Do you want to take a walk somewhere?” Blake asked with a smile plastered on his face. He was genuinely happy to be able to meet her again, and seeing how glad and relieved she was when she met him again further increased Blake’s desire to keep her safe.

‘I couldn’t possibly bring her back to the demon realm now especially when I’m only a step away from evolving and going to the deeper demon realm.’

‘But I need to get her out of here before the demons from the other side of the portal reach here and bring the war to this world… I will need to find a way so that she will be able to live a relatively normal life in the demon realm first if I want to bring her there. I need to at least find a way where she wouldn’t die in a realm filled with nether.’

Blake still remembered the explanation from his textbooks about demons and nether. The two were inseparable from each other. If a demon wanted to invade a world, then that said world needed to have the level of nether needed to supplement their bodies. Without enough nether in the environment, the very strong demons wouldn’t be able to get into a prolonged battle for so long.

Hence why the war with demons was prone to lead to a long-lasting war where the demons tried infusing as much nether as possible to their targeted world so that the stronger demons could descend unto the world.

And the effect of nether on a human was also lethal as their minds would slowly corrode and their overall strength decreased as their bodies bathed in large concentrations of nether.

‘I guess I really am a demon in the first place since I didn’t feel any difference before and after my body changed to a demon…’

Thinking that the system could make a perfect disguise system, one that covered his body currently, it was more than just possible that the system had been disguising his body for the past 14 years he lived in the human world and releasing the disguise when he was teleported back to the demon realm.

‘But why was I sent to the human world in the first place? And who gave me the system…?’

Thinking about the evolution catalyst that was hanging on his neck right now, Blake thought of a possible answer to his questions. ‘It must be my parents who were responsible for all this…’

But then another question appeared, ‘Who are they? Why did they do it, and where are they now?’

“Sure, let’s go, brother.” Blake’s train of thought stopped as Amy held his hand and walked forward, leading him outside of the orphanage and walking around the neighborhood.

‘Rr…’ Even with a confused mind, Robus followed the two of them from behind.
