Chapter 161 Shizi Dogs vs. Feng Foxes (14)
Kai had been succeeding in his free-throw shots all night long, with an almost perfect record except for his first miss.
However, shooting from the free-throw line, unguarded and with more time to prepare, was definitely different from shooting mid-range during the game.
Yet, Kai was ready to take the risk.
The others tried to stop him. Shilei was able to get past Jet, and he raised his arm to block Kai's shot.
However, the ball had already left his hands, and the trajectory presented was higher than usual.
With how it was going, it seemed like the ball wasn't going to make it in.
"The angle's too high," Yiming muttered.
Almost everybody in the venue held their breaths, wondering what the outcome would be.
If Kai managed to get this shot in, then they would only be left with a five-point deficit.
"Rebound!" Chunlei exclaimed, already preparing himself.
Jinping and Yuze also prepared to take the rebound and attempt to shoot the ball once Kai failed.
However, much to everybody's surprise, the ball made it in, causing Chunlei's eyes to widen further.
85-80
Yuze was also surprised. He had seen a lot of shots in his lifetime. However, that was the first time he had seen a shot's angle to be so high.
"How?" he muttered.
However, he didn't have any time to process his thoughts as they quickly went back to the game.
Yani, who was watching from the upper bleachers, looked at Kai and shook her head as she felt weird thoughts entering her mind.
"No, no," she muttered.
"He isn't cool."
"He's a weird troublemaker kid," she tried to convince herself.
However, deep inside, she wanted to commend Kai for scoring at such an important time in the game.
"I can't believe this!" Mark exclaimed. "The game is just getting more and more exciting. Just when I thought I knew how it was going to end, the game takes a turn over and over again!"
Chunlei clicked his tongue, finally slowing down as he focused on the shot clock.
Kai, too, glanced at the clock and couldn't help but frown.
1:34
"They're stalling," he muttered. They knew that the circumstances were in favor of them, so if they slowed down, then they would give the Shizi Dogs less time to overtake their points.
As Chunlei dribbled the ball, Kai continued to defend against him.
However, at that moment, he felt something weird in Chunlei's aura.
Then, he finally realized what it was—his dribbles were getting faster.
Kai frowned in confusion as he tried to keep up with Chunlei's movements.
Meanwhile, although the momentum was currently on the Shizi Dogs, Lina couldn't help but feel that something was strange.
"Gosh," Lina said, sitting next to Kun and bouncing her leg in anxiousness.
Kun, who was also nervous, tried to calm Lina down. "They're doing well. With how the game is going, I believe we can still change the tides."
"We might not be able to overtake their score, but we can possibly have an overtime," he said.
Lina shook her head, her gaze focused on Chunlei.
"There's something....weird," she said with a distant look in her eyes.
Kun finally faced her and frowned when he recognized her expression.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Are you analyzing his potential?"
Lina nodded, her eyes still focused on Chunlei.
"He has immense potential," she said. "It exceeds everybody else's potential in the room."
Except for Kai, of course.
Lina still couldn't calculate his potential up to this day. So, she wasn't really sure how Chunlei's values compared to Kai's.
However, out of everyone she could see in the court at the moment, Chunlei had the highest potential.
"That's already given," Kun said. "We already knew that before coming into this game."
"But...something's wrong," she muttered, trying to decipher what it was.
She sat there for a while before finally gasping in surprise.
"What?" Kun asked.
"His potential," she muttered, looking into Kun's eyes.
"He's only using half of it."
Kun's eyes widened as he shifted his focus to the game once more.
Chunlei continued dribbling the ball. The crowd had turned silent at this point, all of them wondering what his next course of action would be.
Even Mark Li didn't dare speak, wanting to witness the game fully.
"You're good," he said to Kai.
Kai's frown deepened at the sudden compliment, wondering why he had said it all of a sudden.
"But you're not better than me. None of you are," Chunlei smirked.
Chunlei had faced much tougher opponents—Max Zhou, in particular. However, he also had the privilege to play with teams in other cities.
Max definitely gave him the hardest time—humbling him down whenever they crossed paths on the court. He had always used his one hundred percent with Max, and nobody else came close.
However, at that moment, Chunlei decided to use more than half of his effort—which left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Meanwhile, Kai wondered why Chunlei said those words.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
However, before he could do so, Chunlei had already shown him the answer.
Before anyone could react, Chunlei weaved past everyone on the team, not giving them a chance to react.
"What's this?" Kai whispered.
Yuze tried to block the ball, jumping up high. However, Chunlei did an impressive fake and shot from the other side instead, utilizing his long arms.
87-80
"Chunlei performs yet another impressive play! The Shizi Dogs look a bit off guard!"
Indeed, the Shizi Dogs were caught off guard. They thought they were playing with Chunlei at his fullest potential.
However, it seemed like he was actually going easy on them!
"Shit," Yuze cursed as he caught the ball and threw it toward Jinping, who was the closest to the ring.
However, it seemed like his tiredness had caught up to him, which made him run slower than usual. That led Yiming to catch up to him and intercept before he could even shoot the ball.
"24 seconds left on the clock!" Mark exclaimed.
"No," Kai muttered as Chunlei once again took the ball. "No!"
He ran up to him, wanting to stop him at all costs.
However, it seemed like he was a different breed—one that Kai couldn't touch.
He was only a few inches away from blocking the ball, yet those mere inches felt like miles.
So near...yet so far.
Then, he heard the cheers from the crowd along with the sound of the buzzer.
Kai lost balance as he landed on the ground, causing him to fall on his butt. However, at that moment, with the cheers surrounding him like firecrackers—it seemed as if he couldn't hear anything.
Then, like a flame in the middle of the dark knight, Chunlei's voice rang in his ears.
"It's too early."
"You shouldn't have expected to win."
