Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 148 Shizi Dogs vs. Feng Foxes (1)

"There are so many unexpected people here," Kun muttered, feeling even more nervous.

"What is Sir Dao doing here?" Zeren asked, scratching the back of his neck in confusion.

"I think he likes basketball," Jet said.

"But he doesn't like our team, though," Kai said as he tightened the shoelaces on his new shoes.

Jet noticed it and patted him on the back. "Nice, you finally have some decent shoes on. Sometimes, I wonder how you were able to play the last two games with those ugly ass shoes."

Kai clicked his tongue. "Those shoes got us two wins. Don't underestimate them now."

"Well, your new shoes better have the same luck. We need every luck we can get."

Kai nodded before heading to the ring to warm up before the game.

Meanwhile, those on the bleachers cheered as the Shizi Dogs started warming up, making the team feel strange once again.

Yuze scratched the back of his head as he watched three ladies clad in cheerleader uniforms chanting his name from the very top row.

Zeren sighed and looked at their captain in admiration.

"Must be nice. Must be nice," he muttered.

Sir Dao clicked his tongue as he scrutinized the Shizi Dogs' skills.

"I can't believe you dragged me here, Sir Muchen," he said, his eyes still focused on the court.

"I didn't," Muchen said, scratching the back of his neck.

"I was supposed to have dinner with Coach Jin, but we had to cancel it because you insisted that I should go with you," he continued ranting.

"Coach Jin had some business with his wife. Besides, I told you that it was okay if you didn't accompany me," Muchen responded; however, it seemed like the old man wasn't listening to him at all.

"So, here I am, spending my Sunday night with you when I should be with my family," Sir Dao said, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

Muchen sighed and shook his head. The old man was ridiculous!

On the upper part of the bleachers, Suzy nearly cursed when he saw a familiar man in the front row seats.

"Gosh," she muttered. "What is he doing here?"

Yani turned to her. "Who?"

Suzy sighed and shook her head. "No one important. Let's just watch the game."

Just then, the buzzer resounded in the entire court, making the crowd erupt into deafening cheers.

The players stopped and stared at the scoreboard, seeing that it had now been reset, with ten minutes on the clock for the first quarter.

They went to their bench, and Mark Li took the microphone to say his welcoming remarks.

"Good afternoon, everyone!" he exclaimed, eliciting even louder cheers from the crowd.

It seemed like the supporters of the two teams were trying to outscream each other. The Feng Foxes' supporters undoubtedly won because of their larger number; however, even if the Shizi Dogs' supporters could only fill a fourth of the venue, their voices were still louder than that of their proportion.

"The court is heating up tonight," Mark Li said. "I see that all of you are excited for this game. This is my second commentary for the night, so pardon for any voice cracks."

"Now, let's head straight into the game."

"The starting players, please proceed to your side of the court."

The referee blew the whistle, and the starting players took their positions on the court, an aura of light shining down on them.

On the Shizi Dogs' team, there was Yuze, Kun, Zeren, Jet...and Kai.

Bao cheered as his friend stood at the center.

Meanwhile, Yiming and Chunlei turned to each other in surprise.

"He's starting?" Chunlei asked.

Yiming clicked his tongue. "I haven't had any opportunities to watch their games, so I can't say for sure, but it seems like he has been promoted to the first-string team for a good reason."

Chunlei hummed. "I wonder," he muttered.

"Feng Foxes! Fox! Fox! Fox!"

"Box! Box! Box those dogs out!"

The crowd chanted as their starting players also took their positions on the court.

Kai would have been annoyed by their cheer, but he was more focused on their line-up instead.

Kexin Wu, shooting guard

Shilei Ma, small forward

Bocheng Ding, center

Kai turned to the bench and waited for Yiming and Chunlei to stand. However, much to his disappointment, they kept still.

He also heard Yuze sigh from beside him.

It seemed like the Feng Foxes were still not treating them like real threats to their title.

Nonetheless, Kai remained focused as the referee went in between Yuze and Bocheng.

Bocheng, who was determined to beat Yuze in the ball throw once and for all, gave it his all as the referee threw the ball high in the air.

Everybody held their breaths as they watched the scene unfold before them.

Two towering guys reached for the ball, only for them to touch it at the same time.

What mattered now was the person who had the most strength.

Bocheng clenched his teeth and pushed his hardest. However, Yuze did the same.

'Strong,' Bocheng thought.

'But I've gotten stronger,' he smirked.

With that, he placed even more force into his push and was able to deflect the ball from Yuze's hands and into Kexin's grip.

The Feng Foxes cheered as Bocheng was finally able to clear his objective. The big, tall guy couldn't help but feel giddy as he ran to their side of the court, where Kexin was already preparing to shoot.

Zeren clicked his tongue and jumped high to cover him, but Kexin did a fake and shot from the side instead.

"The Feng Foxes takes the first score of the game with a three-point shot from none other than Kexin—their sharpshooter!"

Chunlei smirked as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"Goodness gracious," he muttered. "They should calm down. It's only ten seconds in."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Meanwhile, Shizi's supporters all became silent as the scene unfolded before their very eyes.

"So, this is what it's like," Bao said.

"Different...they're definitely different."

Alen and Mingze nodded. "You're looking at the top two school in the entire city."

Yiming smirked as they looked toward their coach.

"I think we've bagged the semi-finals," he said, causing their coach to smile in satisfaction.

However, Yiming's smirk quickly fell as a commotion was suddenly heard.

He turned his attention to the court and saw none other than Kai Guo speeding to their side.

"I'm going to play against Max Zhou," Kai muttered as he ran like his life depended on it.

"What the?" Chunlei muttered. "What is this speed?"

And then, Kai positioned himself just right in front of the free throw line.

Chunlei and Yiming frowned.

"It can't be," Yiming muttered.

However, before Kai could shoot the ball, Bocheng reached his arm to cover him. So, instead of shooting from his side, he passed the ball to Zeren without looking in his direction, taking the Feng Foxes by surprise.

The first-year student barely had a second to breathe before he threw the ball high into the air.

Then, a swish cut through the silence.

"However, Zeren, the first-year player from Shizi High, takes back the gap with a three-point shot of his own!"

3-3.
