Book 4: Chapter 1: Chen Heng’s Incompatible Style

Book 4: Chapter 1: Chen Heng’s Incompatible Style

Book 04: Arknights Arc

Eight o’clock in the evening in Arknights’s world, Kal’tsit’s office:

“Kal’tsit, what do you need me to do?” Chen Heng sat on a chair, asking Kal’tsit what she required his help with.

“How long will you stay on Rhodes Island?” Kal’tsit did not raise her head, busy with some documents.

“About ten days. I adjusted the difference in time flow between our worlds. The free adjustment allows for a one-to-five ratio adjustment at most. That means I will return to my world after two or three days. Of course, I can stay longer if you still need my help.”

Besides letting Luo Li and Mo Qingtong calm down, Chen Heng came to this world to give himself time to prepare, so the longer, the better. Right now, he did not know how to face them.

If Chen Heng had truly re:lived, it would be fine. However, he had only seen the future, not lived it.

The two differed. If he had re:lived, he would have truly experienced those things and helped Luo Li. However, Precognition differed from re:life. Precognition only allowed him to see those events, but he had not truly experienced them.

Chen Heng felt if he truly accepted it, it would let Luo Li down.

Experience was experience, and observing was observing. The two could not be mistaken for each other.

Chen Heng decided to clarify things with Luo Li when he returned. As for the final decision, that would depend on her. As for now, he would just continue being lazy.

“Go to Rhodes Island’s office and submit a resume tomorrow. It just so happens you can help me out here. As for today, I will get someone to bring you to an empty dormitory room to spend the night; we will make further arrangements tomorrow. Is that fine?”

“That’s good. I can find something to do, then. If I have to stay here with nothing to do for ten days or so, I’ll be bored out of my mind.”

“Rest here first. I already called someone. That person will arrive soon.”

“I’m feeling curious about the ears on your head.” Chen Heng could no longer help his curiosity. His eyes had not shifted from those ears since he noticed them. Fortunately, Kal’tsit had not raised her head; it would be awkward if their eyes met.

“It’s normal. There are likely no pure humans left in our world. Or at least I have never met one. Whether they exist is questionable. The races of Terra more or less have some animal characteristics. I recommend you play the game Arknights. This game tells the story of our world.” The pile of documents by Kal’tsit’s side was half a meter tall, and these were the ones she had not dealt with yet.

“By the way, He Who Knows Fate, what abilities do you have? That will allow me to figure out what kind of operator you would be. Tell me one by one; also, tell me what their strongest effect is.”

“Alright. First is my base ability, attraction. If I put in effort, I should be able to pull the moon down. Of course, that would take some time.”

[Author Note: I’m unsure if Terra has a moon, but it probably does.]

“…Next.”

“Electromagnetic energy control. This is an ability I recently grasped. Although I don’t know its limits, I can call down a lightning barrage wide enough to cover a city.”

“…Next.”

“The third ability is gravity. This is also a new ability, and I have never used it to its fullest extent. However, I should be able to crush all the tall skyscrapers within a five-kilometer radius.”

“…Are your abilities all so ridiculous?” Kal’tsit had known Chen Heng was strong, but she had not expected him to be this ridiculously strong. She now wondered whether she dragged down the average combat prowess of the Dimension Administrators Association.

“It’s still alright. I just had some fortuitous encounters recently. Compared to before I joined the association, my overall strength has increased by several times.”

“None of them work. Your abilities do not fit the style of this world. Do you have any skill-based techniques?”

“Skill-based techniques? You should have said so earlier. I know some swordsmanship. That’s right. Does your world have guns? Like this one.”

Chen Heng took out the Electromagnetic Sniper Rifle he obtained from Reincarnator 9527. He had named it as such because he found this sniper rifle could contain electromagnetic energy very well after he obtained the electromagnetic control ability. The bullets of this sniper rifle were custom-made and could be used in combination with electromagnetic energy. Reincarnator 9527 must have had it custom-made to raise its offensive power. Who knows how much resources Reincarnator 9527 had poured into this gun?

This was a rail sniper, much more powerful than a rail gun.

“Although our world has guns, I’m not sure if we have the model you have. Yours looks quite exaggerated.”

“As long as there’re guns. It shall be this, then!” Chen Heng caressed the rail sniper, which he placed on his legs, feeling happy.

“How powerful is this thing?”

“Leaving aside other things, if I do not use my electromagnetic energy ability, it should be able to pierce through a large building. This was made in the Host God Space and was strengthened to +13. However, I do not know the specifics, as I have never tested it. It’s too eye-catching in my world.”

“Very good. This is it. That is barely acceptable. When you fill in your resume, just state you are a sniper.”

Knock-knock-knock! Knock-knock-knock!

Knocking interrupted Chen Heng as he was about to say something.

“Come in!”

“Kal’tsit, why did you call me here?” An anthropomorphic woman with brown donkey ears walked into Chen Heng’s line of sight.

Erm… Chen Heng entered deep thought as he glanced at this woman’s ears. Are these donkey ears? Or are they fox ears? Rabbit ears?

“Amiya, you are here. This is my friend; his name is…his code name is He Who Knows Fate.” As Kal’tsit introduced Chen Heng, she suddenly realized she did not know his true name. After all, no one else used their true name in the chat group like she did.

However, she did not get flustered, as many people in Rhodes Island—rather, Terra—used code names.

“How do you do, He Who Knows Fate.”

“How do you do, Amilu.”

[TL Note: Chen Heng changed the last character in Amiya’s Chinese name to donkey, which would be “lu” when transliterated.]

……

As such, Rhodes Island’s leader, Amiya, formally met He Who Knows Fate. However…

“Mister He Who Knows Fate, my name is Amiya.”

“Ah! Sorry. That’s right. May I ask if your ears are donkey ears?”

Chen Heng’s darned curiosity would get him killed sooner or later.

“Mister He Who Knows Fate, you are too much. I’m from the Cautus race.”

[TL Note: Cautuses are leporids, meaning with traits of rabbits and hares. You can read more about Cautuses here: /wiki/Cautus. However, Amiya is actually a chimera (the only known chimera), which might explain why Chen Heng was not sure about her ears.]

“Cautus?” Chen Heng did not understand what kind of race Cautuses were.

“That means rabbits.” Fortunately, Kal’tsit clarified Chen Heng’s doubts.

“By the way, Amiya, he is the person who provided the Oripathy medicine for you, the person from that association I mentioned. He is here to help you rescue Doctor.”
