Harry Potter: The Ring Maker

Chapter 485: Lexicon

Chapter 485: Lexicon

Immediately after opening the door Nick leapt backwards as several attacks came at him from within the room. He didn't realize it until the door was open but there was three drones within the room set to ambush whoever opened it incorrectly. 'I forgot that the dwemer were clever pricks and did shit like this.' he thought as he quickly immobilized and dismantled the drones like the previous one. Even if the dwemer who made them was tier five or higher the drones themselves were simple constructions that were only a true threat to a wizard like Nick if he was caught off guard.-

That was because the things lacked any real magical means of attacking and relied on physical means to cause damage. Even worse was that they had no resistance to this worlds form of magic at all that wasn't so focused on destruction as opposed to utility. For all the gifts the people of Nirn had with their thriving mana rich world they sucked at getting creative with their spells and tended to rely on brute force for everything. While Nick can't say that was wrong it just meant that this worlds magic system had an edge in utility and finesse by a wide margin.-

The dwemer themselves likely wasn't aware of this at the time they created these drones and thus simply chose to stick to the traditional automatons of their race. Nick chuckled and shook his head at this before focusing on the task at hand. Walking into the room he smiled as how could he not recognize a workshop when he saw one? The whole room was well preserved thanks to the type metal used for the tools and the enchantments on everything that stopped times ravages.-

Oh yes the room was absolutely blinding to Nick's magical senses as the whole place had preservative enchantments on them that he recognized as being written in daedric runes. He wasn't surprised at this since most enchantments from Nirn used the language as a base for their enchantments and spell craft. And why wouldn't they when daedra and aedra were the constant and ever present reminder of the most powerful beings in their reality , that they were aware of anyways. Even calling it daedric runes was technically incorrect as it belonged to the aedra as well though to be fair the daedra were the first to share the knowledge of the language with the mortal races.-

Hermaeus Mora to be precise was the one responsible for the spread of that knowledge to the mortals. Nick had to admit it was a smart move of the prince of secrets and fates part as it was a foregone conclusion that the mortal races would get that knowledge eventually on their own so why not skip the hassle and get it over with in exchange for some profit for himself? The funny part in Nicks opinion was that the daedric lord clearly hadn't realized exactly how far the mortals would take that piece of knowledge at the time.-

The dwemer more than any other race proved their hegemony in the usage of the language as they made false life and even tapped into tonal magic which was a whole complicated and super high tier piece of magic. The crazy race even got uncomfortably close to creating a new god using the heart of one as a fuel source. Nick was frankly speaking thrilled with the workshops discovery as even without the knowledge of the one who made it he could at the very least copy the enchantments and then figure out bits and pieces of how the dwemer crafted stuff.-

The biggest gain however was an apple sized metal cube looking object that had sat in a special pedestal in the center of the workshop. 'A lexicon , nice!' Nick thought excitedly since he knew that the things were used by the dwemer as a sort of portable library for knowledge. This one was obviously empty as it had no magical signals at all but with some luck Nick could use it to reverse engineer the magical technology behind it for his own use. -

This would be a huge step forward for him as using this technology he could inscribe an entire libraries worth of knowledge onto a lexicon that could then be directly injected into his mind to instantly gain all of it. It wasn't exactly learning that fast so much as allowing him to directly skip the reading step of gaining knowledge and letting him work on directly memorizing it all instead. He wasn't the only one who would benefit from this technology either as he could inscribe the entire Hogwarts library into a lexicon and have all of it injected into the first years of the school to basically elevate the entire british wizarding communities future generations knowledge and power by a wide margin.
